DC wasn't the first time he deployed the military, either, that was LA, and next up he plans to send Texas' national guard to Chicago in an attempt to incite violence there. Might as well state plainly that he wants another civil war, because he very clearly admires the confederacy.

Regardless, this is unprecedented. Authoritarianism is anti-American, full stop, and the constitution's remedy for people like Trump is in fact the death penalty.

I don't think you understand how popular these moves are. These are places that are knee deep in crime, you might not be affected by it and can afford to have these ridiculous positions, but average, every day, specially poor people living there can't.

Look at Bukele's approval, being brutal against crime is very effective (if it works), you will get massive approval ratings. I guess time will tell. If Trump actually manages to fix Chicago's out of control gang crime though? He pretty much won 2026.

Crime everywhere is falling, not heavily, simply because it rose sharply during covid for obvious reasons. That still doesn't mean DC wasn't a crime infested hellhole, people in DC still feel the crime, to them statistics are meaningless, and "do nothing because crime is falling off normally from an abnormal spike" is a stupid take anyways. Sending the national guard to DC to get crime under control is not unpopular, and it is also not "sending the military against US citizens", not sure why you are downplaying crime like this. If Trump can actually get Chicago's murder rate under control, he will rise sharply in popularity, there is no way around this.


I agree DC isn't the worst crime place, but the reason he did DC first is because it's the US capital, and it is frankly quite embarrassing to have your capital be a crime ridden hellhole. If he can get Chicago and Baltimore under control that will be a huge accomplishment.
