Has anyone actually been bricked by DBI?

Even if DBI failed an install it wont brick your console the game will show up on the home screen blacked out with a ? for a name you can delete it in system settings.

This isn't about failed installs but the author threatening to intentionally brick consoles:

as a russian, and a member of some server where the dev also chats sometimes i could say
1. MAYBE there's a virus, duckbill always says "maybe" when someone asks. so we can't do anything with it
2. he stopped making english versions only because of you all, someone called him "russian bastard" and some mod supported this move, so he decided just to shut it down
3. dbi is an instrument, an instrument that he made firstly for himself. not for you and not for us (russian part of community)
i hope there won't be any conflicts about this theme again

My switch isn't turning on after installing a couple of nsp's using the dbi 798 ru. This happened a while ago, but I'm still super mad at the situation, getting another switch modchipped is just way too expensive

makes sense - so many people can’t separate the difference between propaganda about Russian and a real human.

Just cause he is from a country your government doesn’t like - doesn’t give you an excuse to harass and expect things.

I've met a lot of people like that in my life. I think it's called narcissism? They can't take the hits to their ego so they deflect and rewrite history to fit their warped version of reality. Really interesting thing. Even when there's hard evidence against them, they deflect, ignore, blame shift, move on like nothing happened. Sound familiar?

Just to be clear, did your Switch get bricked because you installed brickware or because of DBI?

As far as I know, and I mainly stick with 658 (don't really have much reason to 'upgrade'), there's no bricking going on and it's got more to do with how the dev communicates.

I have seen this post in the past and while I think it's poor communication to mention bricking, I honestly don't get the impression that is 100% definitive proof of malicious intent and I've installed enough games so far that I don't believe my Switch is going to die anytime soon because of DBI.

If anything, the dev sounded more like someone who lost his patience and lashed out in anger or annoyance. Some people latched onto that like sharks smelling blood in and blew it up big as if only one interpretation was possible. The real problem in my eyes is that the dev isn't clear enough in his communication to make clear if it was just sarcasm or anger rather than actual malicious intent. It sounds more like he's in this spiteful mode because of what's undoubtedly a minority that gave him grief and just keeps holding on to that grudge.

the DBI author has threatened to put brick code into DBI. Has anyone actually been bricked by it? I can deal with the Russian text but restoring a NAND backup is a fucking pain in the ass.

I don't believe he did. I'm using version 658 to this day without issues, the last English version. Worst thing that I've seen so far is a game not installing via USB thumbstick while it worked via MTP responder, and even that was just a one-time occurance for me.

I've heard the same. All I know he just threatened to introduce it, but its never been there.

I personally hope Duckbill once readd english, or at least allow to make for example .lang files or such. But its his software, he have no obligations to provide anything for anyone.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing at all. I cannot fathom how the dev can get upset over something like a kind suggestion to add translations from Russian to English into the official release. From the DBI thread I've been reading, he felt as if he got treated badly by some English speakers. I don't know what the context is, or how it all started, but there's nothing politically motivated about this tool.


NO. No they were not. They made that threat plain and simple for everyone to see, this is NOT a misinterpretation. He wants the attention and he got it.

He's pissed because of how other countries are treating Russia due to the war and he is trying to retaliate to the trade bans etc. But he forgets that the users of dbi have as little choice in the matter as he does. We're not politicians, we don't make the decisions.

I always update DBI to the latest Russian version. It's nice to have the bugs ironed out. You can actually figure out very fast where the features you need most (MTP, clean up orphan files, check updates, etc.) are and memorize them.

I've never had any issue and I also believe the "brick threat" was not serious or a misunderstanding.

NS-USBLOADER Is a client which run on a computer with Java and SENDS information to a SERVER on the console, the server can be Goldleaf, AtmoXL-Titel-Installer, AwooInstaller, TinWoo, etc.

Use Goldleaft and NS-USBLoader as a nice couple.
