AYANEO reveals new devices, including dual-screen Android clamshell, mini gaming laptop and gaming phone, and budget-friendly sub-brand KONKR

Handheld gaming manufacturer AYANEO made quite a few announcements during its 2022-2026 Strategy Sharing Conference. The event was live streamed yesterday and a recap can be viewed in the video above. Below are some of the key highlights from the conference.

Android products:
  • AYANEO Pocket VERT: This is a vertically-oriented Android handheld with a high-definition screen and premium craftsmanship that the company is also billing as "a collectible handheld artwork".
  • AYANEO Pocket DS: Drawing inspiration from the Nintendo DS, the Pocket DS is a flip up dual screen Android handheld gaming device. It is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon's flagship gaming platform, features a high refresh rate OLED main screen and a large retro 4:3 ratio secondary screen combination, and packs a self-developed dual screen interaction software. These were some announcements! Are you interested in any of the devices teased?

Well at least Drastic supports dual screens natively but it being 4:3 only sucks since it would mean 3DS won't look good because it's 16:9. Glad I went retroid pocket 5 and its dual screen attachment.

Probably as a second monitor? Dunno if any DS, 3DS or Wii U emulator has second monitor support on Android. Stuff like that does exist for Linux.
Drastic definitely does, and I feeeeeel like Cotra does, but I’ve not tried it.

3DS looks fine on a 16:9 screen. The black bars are really slim since the 3DS is natively 15:9.

Haven't they JUST released a product? The frequency of new handhelds that Aya Neo pushes out is getting insane at this point, and people still wonder why I call them "e-waste".

Fucking FINALLY
I've been waiting for a device like this ever since I discovered the Xperia Play. Phones with physical, sliding, gaming controls are a completely untapped market. If Nintendo did this, theyd sell out in femtoseconds.

Now, emulation, indie games, android ports...
We can finally say We got games on our phone.

It feels like Ayaneo announces a new device every fortnight... I just can't see them supporting all of that hardware.
None of those companies do that, and for a $50 console that I'm supposed to pay attention to when charging it with my ancient Nokia charger (because nothing newer will work) in case it melts or catches fire - that's "fine".

My expectations for $200, not to mention $400, are a bit different.

Every time I see a new fancy retro handheld, I think 'No, we have a 3DS at home for that, I can't replace my 3DS when I can't properly play 3DS / DS elsewhere else'. Now the Pocket DS, that actually could replace a 3DS fully. I hope it isn't to expensive, I might get a little bit more for my Dual IPS and get the Pocket DS for that.
