The NX2 is all but guaranteed to use different encryption keys from NX. No way an NX1 is going to be able to decrypt contents encrypted for NX2. It won't simply be a firmware update.
Sorry I don’t know what NX1 and Nx2 is

I tried dumping rune factory for switch one using the migswitch homebrew app, using switch 1 and got some error about I needed to update the console.

I very much doubt it for these carts as they are readable by the switch 1 and switch 2 and have both switch 1 and 2 versions on the game cart and even so I doubt it’ll take long for someone to decrypt them and I suspect the migswitch reader will be able to dump them in the future

The switch codename was NX.
Ah ty

So i have Rune Factory Switch 2 edition. And it fits in the switch 1. Only thing is it will not run the switch 2 edition, but runs the game without s2 content ofc... Lmao

Yes, "Switch 2 Edition" cards work on Switch 1 but the "Switch 2" exclusives will not work on Switch 1

Just in case anyone's interested: Mig switch dumper doesn't even seem to recognize switch 2 cartridges at the moment and behaves as if nothing is inserted.

I wish Nintendo would make this obvious, I was worried that if I ever go for a boxed switch 2 version of a game, it will not work in my OLED if I ever want to compare how it runs or whatever.

I honestly don't know why are you guys confused about the different cartridge types.
It works like this from what I've gathered:
- Switch 1 cartridges contain an image of a Switch 1 game, compatible with Switch 1 and Switch 2 in "Switch mode".
- Switch 2 cartridges contain an image of a Switch 2 game, compatible with Switch 2 only.
- Switch 2 Edition cartridges contain an image of a Switch 1 game along with an image of a Switch 2 DLC. Think of the DLC part as something like a BPS patch which a Switch 2 then applies to the game image, containing the graphic updates, additional content (if any), and whatever necessary code rewrites are done so "Switch Mode" won't have to be used.
- Switch 2 game keys don't contain images, just whatever keys are needed for the CDN to provide the actual game image for download.

The notch on the cartridge serves to tell the Switch 2 to not use Switch mode (i.e. invoke the in-built emulator).

I tried this today with dbi, it didnt work

but if you were to swap the cartridge shells would it work because the use the same rom format?
Im stupid when it comes to encryption.

Guys, please stop posting silly threads.

Switch 2 games are encrypted as are Switch 1 games.

To read the game and understand what is on it, you need the encryption key, the switch one key was cracked hence why mig exists.

Switch 2 hasn't and may never be, someone lock this 🤦

"switch 2 edition" cart are just the same switch 1 card with the upgrade patch included. try to put it in switch 1 and play it then "congratulation, you can play switch 2 game on switch 1" LOL
