Nintendo has announced who will play both Link and Princess Zelda in the upcoming live action The Legend of Zelda film. Bo Bragason has been cast as Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be playing Link. Both actors are from England, with Bragason having roles in The Radleys, Renegade Nell, and The Jetty, while Ainsworth has been in Pinocchio (2022), The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Son of a Critch. Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the movie will be in theaters on May 7, 2027.

It's great they picked an actual actress for Zelda, but considering how badly they mischaracterised Peach in the Mario movie...? Yeah, they're likely to mischaracterise Zelda here, too - give her more action and importance than she gets in the actual games.

I mean, apart from Spirit Tracks, Zelda's never been a frontline character - her best role in Twilight Princess has her provide Link with information, sacrifice her life force to heal Midna, and then shoot Light Arrows at Ganondorf to stun him so Link can attack him. Ocarina of Time? Doesn't do much on-screen, either as a child (makes sense) or as Sheik (because the camera's on Link for the entire game). A Link Between Worlds? She sees where things are headed, so she gives Link one of the Pendants early so it's not trapped with her; then she's captured by Yuga, and gives Link the Light Arrows during his final fight with Yuga.

Even in the maligned and horrific BotW and TotK, her viewpoint is optional and easily missable, doing a handful of things in the past; Zelda has never been a frontline character, yet of course since this is a movie she's undoubtedly going to be more important than Link himself, with a hugely unrepresentative personality and characterisation to boot. Massively disappointing, really.

Massively disappointing, really.

So are you massively disappointed that the character after which the entire franchise is named will appear in the movie or are you massively disappointed because you made up a movie in your head and didn't like it?

The Mario movie didn't need popular celebrity voice actors, and would have been better off with unknowns, esp if it meant that fucking Seth Rogan didn't voice Donkey Kong. Having unknown actors for the Zelda movie is a good thing, imo. I just wish it was an anime.

We actually did get a Zelda anime tease in Smash 4's Palutena video.

Nintendo needs to stop being cowards, and give everyone what they truly want!

Not surprised at all. Movie is not being created for fans of the franchise. Just like BOTW & TOTK were not created for fans of the franchise.

Also, even if they are homophobic, they are still both great actors.
William Shatner, for exemple, he is still one of the greatest actor known to this day, he was openly misogynist. Yet, I don't see many people condemn him
Bill Shatner is my spirit animal

Hopefully these kids stay away from social media. Cause it's gonna get brutal for them.
Maybe once the movie is out and their acting is awful. But for now it's been pretty positive so far. Besides a certain few people rather having that one person being as Zelda. Of course it's in the minority

Ok, no. Again. Some games just aren't movie material, STOP MAKING EVERY GAME A MOVIE.
Look. They already made one...maybe two series based on The Legend of Zelda, they made The Super Mario Bros Movie, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the year. And given all the other movies and TV/streaming series based on video games that have released within the last half-decade, that genie's never going back into the bottle.

We might as well get used to it. The least we can hope for is that they don't cast Jack Black AGAIN.

Not Hunter-chan as was rumoured?
She could have played both Zelda and Link.
(Saw someone suggest this and thought it was a funky meme.)
