"Smash Remix" romhack has been updated to v2.0

The highly renowned and impressive romhack for the original Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64, Smash Remix, has received its v2.0 update.

This new updates brings a brand new announcer... The original Smash 64 announcer, Jeff Manning, lent his voice for this incredible romhack.
But that's far from being the only new feature. A lot of new things have been added as well, ranging from new characters, stages, alongside the new announcer.

Here's a list of things added to the update for Smash Remix:
  • Peach is now a playable character, with alternate colours, including one resembling Daisy.
  • Crash Bandicoot is now a playable character
  • Time Twister stage based on Crash Bandicoot has been added
  • Discovery Falls stage has been added
  • LMAO Castle stage has been added
  • Pigmask Fortress stage from Mother 3 has been added
  • Raid Blue stage has been added
  • N64 Remix stage has been added
  • Previous stages have been updated
  • New "King of the Hill" VS Mode
  • New "Smashketball" VS Mode
  • New "Tag Team" VS Mode
  • New items, like Mr. Saturn and the Clock.
  • Special zoom option for attacks on 2v2 VS Mode.
  • Game speed modifications, making characters move faster or slower
  • Shield Parry
  • Rage status for characters
  • New alternate characters similar to Echo fighters, like Dark Samus, Slippy, Peppy, Dr. Luigi, Roy

Nice!! These videos are worth watching without spoilers. They do such a good job with them. Was laughing out loud at the last part.

Remix is simultaneously a love letter to the 90s era of gaming and to Smash as a whole. What a treat!

I have played the new version of smashketball already and was amazed at how insanely fun it is. I thought it was already a legendary stage, trying to dunk your opponents as if they were a basketball; but adding in a literal basketball to fight over is indeed just as fun. Hours of entertainment to be had there. Haven’t tried that soccer mode yet — it is probably equally great.

Last thoughts — personally I love Smash 64 even without all the extra characters, since each of the original 12 fulfills a unique niche perfectly. That’s why I still play it all these years later. But all these extra features and characters are just going to make the game last that much longer. Also, I am a huge fan of Crash’s spin move knocking away items, that’s straight up comical.

I think we’re super lucky to have this mod and I look forward to playing it for the rest of my days.

Crash is broken, I can't win against Lv.10 Kirby

That looks good. I'm trying to think if I have a way to play it handheld. iPhone I suppose.

Lots of characters. Maybe this is where Isaac makes his debut.

Wow, that’s actually a pretty awesome update! Bringing back the original Smash 64 announcer voice is such a cool touch for the nostalgia.
And all those new characters and modes — Dark Samus and Dr. Luigi alone are reason enough to dive back in. Definitely gonna give this a try.

Pretty surprising that the original announcer for this game returned to help with this ROM hack. Also, LMAO that castle stage.
no one likes nintendo not even former voice actors. Nintendo treats them like crap so I bet the announcer was actually thrilled to work with people who actually love gaming and arent criminal yakuza like Nintendo.

This sounds like an impressive hack. It really is intriguing that the original announcer was commissioned for new voice samples.

I recall a Melee hack I played with a friend. It added tons of stages and characters, like Luke Skywalker and Kermit. We spent a ton of time trying everything out, even though many choices (sometimes) crashed the game. We had some good times with that one, so I have a soft spot for any Smash-related hack projects.

Kudos to the devs for breathing so much life into the original N64 game.

I'll never forget the memories this ROM hack has given me already

Who would have thought in my childhood seeing the grand piano for the first time in mario64, that one day me and my pals would be playing smash bros as grand piano ourselves
