After almost 3 years since the announcement of the movie back in October, 2022, "Return to Silent Hill" finally got a release date.

Through their official social accounts, Konami and the Silent Hill media pages have officially announced the release date for the big screen adaptation of Silent Hill 2, "Return to Silent Hill", set for January 23rd, 2026.

The original Silent Hill duology adapted the stories of both Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 into the big screen, with "Silent Hill: Revelation" hinting at a possible adaptation of Silent Hill 2 all the way back in 2012. Now, more than a decade later, we'll finally get the chance to experience said adaption, albeit with no connection to the original duology of movies so far and sadly without Sean Bean taking the role of James Sunderland in the adaptation.

I'm not sure what I'd really want from a big screen adaptation of Silent Hill 2. I'm not expecting them to do the game justice, and I'm not sure I'd want to watch SH2 instead of playing it.

If they adhere to the storyline but the filmmakers make some light changes to spice up the experience, I guess I'd be ok with that. I just don't want to see James have a 90's action hero moment or witness a conversation between Mary and Maria. I don't want to have to come up with a headcanon because the filmmakers didn't do their homework.

I'll look forward to the scene where James runs around testing doorknobs.

Oh you sweet summer child...

I've been alive long enough to know, that Hollywood famously does not respect a single property or franchise it itself did not make. Doesn't matter how successful or how aggressive the fan base is.

It's why I'm all the more surprised, that detective Pikachu, and the three Sonic movies have actually been as good. Granted, I also fully expected the new Mario movie to have bombed hard enough for Miyamoto to throw another of his tantrums and ban movies for another 30 years.

Actually I would Like that

What I want is that they Show how hes doing some of the iconic riddles like the coin puzzle in the apartments,the box with 3 locks at the hospital,the one with the hanging dead criminals etc

And especially that he have to empty his inventar to use the elevator at the Hotel

That scene is the hardest to screw up, especially with the original game available as a guide.

I hope this silent hill movie is proper scary, gory and a real horror movie and actually based on the silent hill games. When I first played silent hill 3 on the PlayStation it scared the shit out of me it still bothers me today it was that horrible. If this is not an 18 certificate I won’t be bothering

I never felt like Silent Hill games bothered me that much, though I did find the PS2 games memorable in different ways. SH3 did have some great unique moments not found in the others, and I appreciate that SH3 and 4 didn't lean back into Pyramid Head because "it was popular." I have a feeling this movie may not be so inspired.

Maybe I'm being a bit cynical. Maybe Konami will be more protective with their intellectual properties and oversee the project more diligently than they would have in the 2000's. After looking at the cast/character list (see above), I think this movie is going to be another Hollywood cash-in sort of deal: Functional enough as a movie, not great as a horror film or Silent Hill project.

Not true at all for the first one. Most of the fan base really enjoy the first movie and consider it the best video game to movie adaptation made to date. It's only the 2nd one that was disliked by the majority.

Yeah, I appreciate how much Silent Hill 4 tries to vary up the formula. The game spent about 2 years in development, and that shines through. Of course, the game was a smaller project stretched out to a full release, but that doesn't detract from all the small details throughout.

I remember being spoiled a bit for Silent Hill 3. The game released in PAL regions first (Before Japan, even), and someone in an e-mail group let the plot points go while seemingly pretending to not understand what he was doing. This was very shortly after the game's PAL release. Thankfully, it wasn't a big deal to me, but I still remember it to this day.

I recall playing SH3 after midnight back in the day, so I get how that enhances the horror game experience.
