Hey guys.

Is there a list of current game carts and the firmware update files contained in them?

I'm wondering if I can get access to MicroSD express and Switch 1 games if I do a system update from "the right" Switch 2 game cart.

I am assuming in the next weeks and months there will be more firmware updates. I want to keep my Switch 2 intact for now, but if the update from a game cart won't enable microsd and switch 1 games, I might as well update it online now, before a new firmware comes out.

I'd just update it now.
I'm worried the potential exploit that would enable CFW is patched in version 20.1.1, but I also want to have the possibility of updating to 20.1.1 even after 20.2.1 (or whatever) is released.

I can say with 99% certainty, the only way you can get MicroSD Express support (without a soft/hardmod) is by doing the online update.
Similar to the Switch, licensing costs are involved, and Nintendo has to pay those licensing costs for each user. If you could get the MicroSD Express update offline you would essentially be bypassing this licensing cost, and Nintendo would be breaking the terms of their license.
If this wasn't the case, MicroSD Express support would just be integrated in the stock firmware.

Also I believe you do need to actually have a MicroSD Express card inserted to get the update for it, doing a normal update is not enough.

As for BC, I can't say for sure if it's included on any current carts but as they waited to roll out the update until pretty much launch day it seems unlikely any current carts have it. They were still deep in compatibility testing until right up to launch, and there are still games that have issues making them near unplayable at this time. It seems unlikely there is some earlier version of the BC on carts in the wild, that would make it essentially a beta update.

More likely on 20.1.1 as there's more holes for hackers to look through, and remember, without 20.1.1 you can't use Express mSD.

Does the switch 1 and 2 share similar firmware code? I'm wondering if anyone has been able to diff the changes between 19.1.x and 20.x.x to see if anything meaningful has been patched.

Interestingly that's correct but not a problem switch 1 faced, as the CFW allowed the exFAT patches to be applied manually, so there's nothing to say a similar approach wouldn't work on switch 2

has anyone tried to use a microsd express formatted in FAT32 on fw20.1.1 without the additional sd card update??

I did test a normal microsd card formatted in FAT32 and I could transfer my images without any additional update, switch 2 could read it. So maybe its the same with msd express?? maybe it can be fully used (not just for transfering images) without any additional update if its formatted in FAT32??

That would mean stock fw could be updated later via cart and sd card could be used with FAT32

I'm on 20.1.1 I didn't received my SD card express.
When I will receive it, do you think that I will be able to do the SD card update without doing the system update for 20.1.5 ?

The 20.1.1 update contains the MicroSD Express drivers so you’re good to go without any update.

An update has to be done separately for microSD support, similar to how an update was required to enable exFAT on Switch 1. If you are not on the latest then this will bring you to latest.
So when I receive it, even if I'm in 20.1.1, and I insert the SD card into the switch, it will automatically ask me to update to 20.1.5?

If I disconnect it from wifi before inserting the SD card, can i make the sd card update without the system update ?

No because you disconnected from Wi-Fi.....

There's a new firmware update? 😢 that didn't take them too long
