Hi guys. I have an 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Controller, and have a question about using it with my Switch 2. I read an article on Gamespot that after a controller firmware update for 8Bitdo Controllers, which I did with the specified Windows PC Program, they can work with a Switch 2. I have it paired to System, but am having trouble getting it to connect. From what I understand, you shake the Controller to get it to connect and then the white ring light on the home button blinks 3 times, and then stays lit I think. Does anyone here have that Controller, and have successfully got it to connect to Switch 2? Thoughts and help greatly appreciated :)

Hi there,

check the Switch 2 updates on https://tempfiles.8bitdo.com/NS2/

I had also trouble with the 8bitdo USB adapter V1 not working on switch 2 and the update tool not detecting it (on Mac), but was able to update it now via my old win7 VM with the old update tool included in the zip file from the above link.

I was able to update the controller with 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2, but am still having trouble getting controller to connect even though it is paired to my System...

i don't have any ultimate 2 but i have an ultimate one and after updating to latest software i can follow the same instructions i follow for connecting to NS to connect to my NS2 (for BT). Could not pair it with cable tho. Have you tried following the same instructions for switch?

For 2.4g, after updating the adapter it worked .

After pairing it connects by just turning it on with the home button. Also they cant connect by bt if the console is in sleepmode, and my controller disconects after it enters sleepmode (tested on menu). Reconects once the screen "Button:A continue" shows

What adapter did it come with, and what were the instructions that you followed? Mine came with an adapter or something, but the end connector is USB-C. I only updated the controller, do I need to update the adapter as well?

mine was a USB-A brick for 2.4 connection and yes it has its own software. If you want to connect trough it you need to update it. if you don't have a usb-c port on pc use the base and a usb c to usb-A cable. That way you can also connect to pc. For it to appear updatable you must connect only the adapter without the controller.

For BT connection try using this instructions:
https://manual.8bitdo.com/Manuals/u...etooth/Ultimate-2-Bluetooth-Controller-EN.pdf

for BT you don't need to update the usb-c adapter.

I updated both the Controller, and the USB-C adapter to latest Firmwares and was able to get connected to my Switch 2. Thing is. I don't like the USB-C adapter sticking out of the top of my Switch 2. Gonna buy USB-A to USB-C adapter on Amazon. Thank you for your help though :)

Update: I can get Controller to connect in 2.4GHz mode, but it is not connecting/pairing in Bluetooth mode... Help greatly appreciated :)

Why not use the base tho? Or bt mode if input latency is not something you care too much?

In the ultimate bt 1 the base has a compartment below where you can connect the adapter and then connect the base trough any USB c cable (USB c to c or USB c to A) and works the same as I'd the adapter alone. Either way I'm glad I could help.

I was unable to pair/connect Controller using Bluetooth. I can however connect with 2.4GHz mode. Is one better than the other?

I have an Ultimate 1, start the BT pairing process on the Switch, hold the little button on the top until the controller powers on. From there it should pair with the Switch. I did notice that i had to press A before it showed in the Switch menu.

2.4 has less input latency than BT and aparrently the ultimate 2 can connect with cable too ( in my experience with other 8bitdo controllers I have not been able to use them wired on NS2, only on NS) . But IMO input latency does not matter unless you are really adamant to play competitive on a higher lever or input latency is unbearable. It's a matter of try and evaluate.

I proposed BT because that would eliminate the adapter stiking out on top which is something that I would not like too. Also if you use the base (same as 2.4) you can use a longer cable to hide it.

I know it's a dumb question but before attempting bt mode did you try switching modes between 2.4 and bt? In the ultimate 1 is a swith on the back.

Posted late , lol! I am glad that's resolved.

I finally got it to pair in BT mode! Thanks for the help guys! :)
Been having the same issue. Are you using the official latest version for the controller for BT? 1.06

I also updated the adapter to 1.04 and tried 2.4ghz, but that didn't work for me either. Though I'd prefer BT so I can easily swap between my desktop and switch.

i don't remember the numbers but should be the latest and have the log as "added support for nintendo switch 2" or something like that. Same for the 2.4. Tho so switch between these modes you need to change the controller mode too to match your desired connecting method (sometimes i forget, that's why i try to remind here)

maybe this can help you? for my Ultimate one i don't need to press the A button but! is also a small hassle to pair sometimes, is always something dumb like this.

Just as a reminder the 2c controller must be the switch version to work on switch platforms as far as i know the pc/android ver only does not support switch officially.

Hi, is there an equivalent to "Home" button on this controller, to wake up the Switch 2 ? Or is it like the official Switch 1 pro controller: you can't on Switch 2 ?
Thanks

in my experience you can't or there isn't a button for waking up. After putting the controller to sleep the controller usually disconnects and reconnects until the screen turns back on.
