Before I take up 40Gb of my SDCard. How is Sega CD Emulation on the Wii? Is it worth while doing I.E majority of games are playable?

Edit - Just seen your post @SaulFabre

that makes sense then, just wish there was a way to stretch the res for the 32x games like you can do in Hexaeco, its 480p and stretched res looks awesome on my 49 inch

Sorry for merging. Before I take up 40Gb of my SDCard. How is Sega CD Emulation on the Wii? Is it worth while doing I.E majority of games are playable?
It's decent. ekeeke's standalone Genesis Plus GX is great but recently some Sega CD games are broken in latest builds, something that didnt happen on older versions. I'd suggest to look for the libretro core of GPGX, the best one is from @RunningSnakes 's RA Frankenstein.

EDIT: Link for RA-Wii Frankenstein: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1d1tn2paqti7cq9/RA-Frankenstein+2024.7z/file

Awesome, I'll check that out. Seeing there were 211 Sega CD games released, and they're hefty sized, :O I'll be sure to hand pick the best LOL

Hey guys, just passing on a message from testing as I’m setting up Sega 32x and CD in WiifFlow at the moment. Now going off the latest WiiFlow plug ins pack there’s 2 cores for Sega 32x that’s available.

Now for some reason the hexaeco core has major slowdowns in some games compared to the stand alone retroarch core which runs most games at full speeds, which makes no sense as the Hexaeco core is more recent according to the date in the plug-in file.
Yes, the RA PicoDrive core in the plugin pack is the most recent @SaulFabre release, not including his up to date release i have not tested yet.

Honestly, everyone should use @SaulFabre 32X pico core (and many other cores he has recompiled for us) wether you are using through WFL or Frankenstein. His libretro recompile cores are superior in every way.

The SS Pico core does run full speed (with a workaround) through SS-Hexaeco mod pack. Start any 32X game through pico core, then load a new game (the game you want to play) and it should be full speed.

That said, it sucks there is no workaround for the WFL plugin so we can enjoy the bezels.

Hey @SaulFabre just copying over my Sega CD games got around 160 😁 so is this the best emulator to use from WiiFlow?

‘Sega Mega CD genplus gx Libretro’

There’s 3 altogether, genplus GX and GX Hexaeco

Also, will I need a bios file for this console? If so please could you tell me where it goes as I can’t seem to find a folder for it.

Sorry to bother you

Genesis Plus GX Libretro is great but it's not the only Sega CD emulator on Wii.

There's also PicoDrive, which not just emulates Genesis/Mega Drive and Sega CD but also 32X and Sega CD 32X.
i would go to PicoDrive if a Sega CD game doesn't work on GPGX, or if the game needs 32X.

For Sega CD, yes, you need BIOS files.

For standalone Genesis Plus GX, get these bios files and put them in the folder device_root:/genplus/bios/
- bios_CD_U.bin
- bios_CD_E.bin
- bios_CD_J.bin

For RetroArch (libretro) cores of Genesis Plus GX and PicoDrive, get these bios files and put them in the folder device_root:/retroarch/system/
- bios_CD_U.bin
- bios_CD_E.bin
- bios_CD_J.bin

Hope this helps.

Some test results...

FCEUmm - This recompile passed all tests...Stability is very good, i tested 8-9 games in same session with no issues. Save/Load states work 100% and Arkanoid, Zapper, and FDS games were all tested. I noticed a few extras and minor changes that were not present before, so this core has definitely been worked on. I need to test through WFL for compatibility but this is definitely the best FCEUmm core to date.

Nestopia - This recompile passed all tests...Everything is working great with the exception of still no Zapper game support. The newer releases of RA Nestopia have a different Input UI which makes it possible to set up Zapper support. I will have to test this version against 1.16.0 more thorough, stability will be the deciding factor of which is included in Frankenstein.

PicoDrive - This recompile passed all tests...Input issues have been fixed since the last 2 recompiles:)...Stability seems to be excellent and Load/Save states are working great. Speed is still 100%!!! If there are no issues with WFL, this recompiled core will be included in both Frankie and the WFL Plugins Pack.

Geolith - have not tested yet...

Nestopia DOES actually support Zapper emulation, only really tested with Duck Hunt but it DOES work.
FYI, RetroArch Wii since v1.7.9 has been supporting the Wiimote IR as aiming device for Zapper/Lightgun emulation.

To enable Zapper emulation in Nestopia Libretro Wii, do this:
1. Load any game which needs the NES Zapper (i used Duck Hunt)
2. Go to the RetroArch Main Menu, then in Quick Menu, select Core Options
3. In Zapper device option, select Light gun
4. Return to the Main Menu, then go to Settings and then in Input
5. Make sure you have the Max Users setting set to 2.
6. Go to User 2 Binds
7. In User 2 Device Index, set it to Wiimote Controller
8. In User 2 Device Type, set it to Zapper
9. Return to the game, and profit! You have an emulated Zapper with the Wiimote IR on Nestopia!

To use the emulated NES Zapper with this Nestopia Libretro Wii core:
Wiimote IR - Aim
B button - Trigger (Shoot)

(some info taken from @Wiimpathy's thread)

btw, i also included on both FCEUmm and Nestopia the Wii Virtual Console and Restored Wii VC color palettes (both from SuperrSonic). I have plans to use these cores on some of my future SRLs so i thought this would be a cool addition. BTW, they're officially added since i've sent a PR to both to add these.

btw, FCEUmm is still being so updated, adding even more mappers suport. Since last time i recompiled this a few days ago more updates happened since then.

Nice to hear.
I'm pretty sure irixxxx fixed those input issues in https://github.com/irixxxx/picodrive/commit/d2037daec05476ff825bf2ee8fd18a9b73ef8264.
It had to be related to system cycles accuracy (i think?)

Beautiful, Working great!!!:)

Lightgun input setup has been a PITA for both Nestopia and FCEUmm forever. It has changed many times and hard to remember which RA releases need it done a certain way. Awesome the support is there even if it is only for a few games worth playing that require lightgun.

The same is said for Arkanoid support...it is only useful for 2 games i know of, but i happen to really enjoy both.

Yes, i noticed the new palettes included, another huge bonus so users don't have to manually install and load favorite custom pallets.

Also FDS Disk Side Change and Eject Disk now pop up when command button is used. One already had this feature (not sure if it was Nestopia or FCEUmm) but now both display the pop up message. Another nice touch that was sorely needed and implemented.

One last change i noticed with FCEUmm is the Turbo Delay has been changed. Not a big deal but one could set the delay to 1, now 2 is the lowest setting. This was changed recently and wonder if it was causing issues? ...it had been the same for as long as i can remember, maybe 10 years. The only game it really affects for me is the original Track & Field...my old "World Records" will never be equalled or touched with this emulator again:)...QuickNes still supports the Turbo 1 setting so all is not lost for NES emulation through libretro.

If i really need a Track & Field fix, GX, TX, RX all support Turbo 1 speed too.

I'm pretty sure the 1 option for Turbo option in FCEUmm was removed because it had issues with some games:
https://github.com/libretro/libretro-fceumm/commit/0676a2092ad8255e697bc22f0020edecc65020f0

Someone else has also complained about the removal of the 1 option for Turbo:
https://github.com/libretro/libretro-fceumm/issues/628

But if u want, i can readd that option and compile a specific build with that 1 option restored.

For Nestopia, it wasn't even implemented the 1 option but it seems not too complicated to add:

This thread is very busy! I'm not very fond of RA, but I'm seeing very good improvements on this cores.

Hi there @SaulFabre, I'm here with a humble request, but is it posible for you to get an updated compilaton for the RA core of Fake-08 (Pico-8 Fantasy Console)?

Would really love to play those games on my Wii using the WiiMote/Classic Controller/NGC gamepad.

Also, can someone please post/share an All-In-One pack of this RA-Cores compilations, it's getting very convoluted to keep track of all the updates.

Thanks in advance, and sorry to interrupt.

@CMDreamer

I cant for the life of me get Resident Evil Survivor to work on the Wii with the lightgun, have any of you guys got it working? would love to know your settings if you have, I know its possible.. gotta be

lol, he complained about the same game being affected too. I guess i'm not the only one who still plays NES Track & Field for high scores and world records :)

That would be great if you could add the Turbo 1 option back. There are very few NES games that need Turbo enabled, Double Dragon and Xevious certainly do not.

Bad news regarding both FCEUmm and Nestopia through WFL. Unfortunately both recompiles cannot boot FDS games through WFL but NES games work. WFL must have issues picking up the disksys.rom since RA Frankenstein plays FDS 100%.

Good news is PicoDrive core and WFL are friends. I'll wait to test your mod recompile (whenever you get around to it) of FCEUmm before making any changes to either distribution.

I tried to add Wii support to FAKE-08 but the emulator core won't compile with RetroArch Wii's needed toolkit (devkitPPC r29-1).

However, there's another Pico-8 emulator for Wii on RetroArch, called retro8, but it doesn't play ALL Pico-8 games.
If you're still interested, go to this post to grab the build:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/unoffic...nd-other-versions.648742/page-3#post-10436116
(there was no significant updates to retro8 since then so its pointless to make a new build)

@RunningSnakes

I added the "1" option for Turbo buttons on both FCEUmm and Nestopia.
FCEUmm: https://github.com/saulfabregwiivc/FCEUmm-Libretro/tree/turbo-1-option-readd , with latest changes until https://github.com/libretro/libretro-fceumm/commit/80b887a7cd9c83def0eeb12b4d97e2feccb10e6c
Nestopia: https://github.com/saulfabregwiivc/Nestopia/tree/turbo-1-frame-op-add , with latest changes until https://github.com/libretro/nestopia/commit/d2eefab298b0b9152d2934d6f0227b6803c877b3

As i said, implementing back that option on both wasn't hard, as i had to change only one file in each.
But i haven't really tested them, so i gently ask to please test the "1" option in both emus (FCEUmm and Nestopia).

If everything goes well, i'll send a PR to both to officially add these back in these emus. And if they reject it, well... at least i'll have them in my forks.

Both FCEUmm and Nestopia are compiled with RA Wii v1.7.9 (RetroArch toolkit libOGC).

BONUS:

I've recompiled yet again PicoDrive with RA Wii v1.7.6 (RetroArch toolkit libOGC) until git https://github.com/irixxxx/picodrive/commit/5ad7996e63d2710409ec4681ac4b766e29a67903 , most notable changes are improving a bit the 32X emulation accuracy and further fix for some remaining input issues.

Awesome!!!

I will test these immediately...greatly appreciated.:)

Edit: Done testing... @SaulFabre and everyone else interested.

Geolith - I see no speed (fps) increase but this updated recompile is stable and working well otherwise. This will replace the existing core in Frankenstein.

PicoDrive (latest) - Working great! It also may be slightly quicker for Save/Load states than your previous recompile. This will replace the existing core for both Frankenstein and WFL.

FCEUmm (Turbo 1) - Working well but the Turbo set to "1" will turn Turbo off. I tested in WFL again and FDS games are still not booting. The RA 1.10.1 core currently used in Frankenstein and WFL have all features this core has with the exception of the new Palettes. FDS games boot and Turbo 1 is supported using both so i will stick with 1.10.1 in both distributions.

Nestopia (Turbo 1) - Wouldn't you guess, the core that didn't have Turbo 1 support now does and works beautiful with the new recompile (thanks for adding this Saul)!!! Again testing through WFL, FDS games don't boot with this new recompile. I have always preferred FCEUmm over Nestopia through libretro because is was more polished with better support and compatibility, however Nestopia has caught up with FCEUmm these past few years. Now with Zapper support and Turbo 1 function, i believe they are equals, especially if using this new recompile through Frankenstein. This new core will replace the existing core in Frankie but 1.16.0 will remain in the WFL plugins pack.

@SaulFabre:
No problem, will try to find a solution to the compilation issues when I get the time.

Thanks for pointing out the alternative emulator, will download it asap and test my favorite games on it using my Wii.

Thanks a lot!
