I'm not against AI stuff but I'll never stop caring about real artists. AI art is not something I'd use on a personal project for example.

Automation eliminated borderline empty, busy placeholders. If the BEST you could learn and gitgud at is taking simple, direct directions and hitting a button on an impact driver......you weren't REALLY in automotive industry. And otherwise, hot rodding is hotter than EVER now with lazy, rich TikTak kidz willing to shell 100s to have that awesome rod they can't even drive.

A job lost is still a job lost, in the name of progression. Kind of like how manufacturing jobs got sent overseas, so if any manufacturing jobs were to be return to the USA, it probably won't be humans working them, instead AI android will probably work them, thus still a job lost.

Yes, I think you have basically reinforced my second statement. Just replace "monkeys" with "artist" in your last post. What if AI gets too good where artist is no longer required anymore?
Also CNC is a form of automation, shouldn't be impossible to replace human to do maintenance task perhaps in the future, when AI gets even better. Although the CNC programmer jobs maybe protected, time will tell if AI can actually take over at some point.
What would happen if AI gets to the point or beyond the point of Singularity? Then humans would not be needed, perhaps be their pet?

Nah. Colleges were NEVER about the degrees, unless you did real subjects like eng. Colleges were ALWAYS about interning with the faculty ASAP to basically bullshit work exp well before you get your paper as well as fac rec letters, assuming your profs and researchers weren't absolute nobodies.

Any other reason of going was and is a complete waste of money and time.

Getting a paper that says you can read, is absolutely no measure of succass. Masters or PhD thesis IS a measure of how well you can actually apply what you supposedly learned.

but it typically has NOTHING to show for you being able to apply what you learned to real life projects.

Like, I had but 1 uni class that I adored and told that story in chat before - main thing were labs, and only rule was - you may NOT copy your classmates' work. That's it. Where you learn, find, etc the code didn't matter, even during exams - if you could google shit and make it work, that's all that mattered in the end.

I had like 110% A+ after the final, and I seldom went to lecture and made up for bombing attendance with exam bonus problems.

I think people forget that AI still fails create things properly. Copies it makes are barely passable, all very obviously cheap fakes. Of course things have gotten better and will continue to get better (or worse for those of us who don't like AI), but AI content will never be "real". There's no thought, no feeling. The "art" is just a guess at what what art is. AI has no clue! It doesn't understand every careful decision put into making anything.

I like to think of AI as a student who just cheats on their work. Everyone in the class (humans) have taken the time to learn. They have studied, done exams, and written many essays. When those students leave the class they are going to be the ones who excel. They understand what they were taught, and they are going to be able to spot the mistakes they make. When you want help with an new idea or want high quality work, go to the students who studied. AI however is just a freeloader. It copies what every other student does. No research, cheats on tests, and just rewords every essay the other students put out. When AI leaves for the real world, nobody in their right mind should want to use it for help. It doesn't know how to do anything but copy. It doesn't understand anything that was taught because it just copied. It's making guesses of the now successful graduates might have done things, and it's probably never going to be quite right. Just puts on a good impression.

AI is fine for some things. Detecting medical conditions which can't be seen by people, formatting spreadsheets, being an FAQ, finding that tune stuck in your head that goes "bum bum bap", etc. Sometimes it's nice to spitball with AI. I've used it before for my "rubber duck debugging". But you can never expect anything more than that. It can't ever do more than simple tasks with any reliability. It can do the mindless tasks, not the ones that require experience and research and growth. Don't ask it to do "art". Don't ask it to do your research and write your essays. Don't ask it how to do your job. AI is just a failed student, and you copying from a failed student is just going to result in your own failure.

I don't care if you're not an artist or knowledgeable on some other topic. Grab a pen and learn. Sure as hell you aren't going to get any value out of stealing from the freeloader student. Don't copy just because it's "easy". Maybe it's easy, but it is wrong and the quality of everything you do is going to suffer. If you've gotta trace art for a bit or use bits from other people's research (crediting them of course) then do that. It'll still be better than AI, and you will learn and become better in the process.
