First console I received was a used Game Boy Color in late 90's. The first brand new console I ever got was the Wii, for 2007 christmas iirc.

My brand new console was a Wii in July 2008 and later a 3DS in 2011.

I mean, I grew up with 3 NESes and 3 Atari 2600, but we had them before I was even born, so...
Also, my mother offered me and my sis a brand new Wii for christmas, but we did buy used consoles before that (we bought used ps1, ps2 and Gamecube with our own money). But after that, I started buying my own brand new consoles. Wii U, PS4, Switch, NDS, 3DS, I bought all these brand new.
Also, even though I didn't own all of them, I did play all Nintendo consoles (SNES and DMG gameboy when I visiting my cousin, I owned a GBA that broke after a year or so), all of them except one. I never touched a N64 in my life.
People say I screwed my childhood when I say that

Everything was better "back then" except the hardware itself.

I don't remember having any problems connecting with the old Windows 95, and later Windows 98 computers at home.
Other than having pre-paid services, I really can't complain as I wasn't using it for other services than information for school and whatnot.
If I couldn't find the required information for a project in the vast catalog of encyclopedias I owned, it was Internet time.

It became tedious around the age of Windows 7, when companies began to offer Internet services monthly.
Demand made providers... provide awful service quality just to meet demand.
Still happening today.

Bois, we had Win 98 and friggin ULTIMA ONLINE and there was little to much else honestly needed for a proper grand time!
