Hi all. I ask as I'm failing to run some WiiWare which is shown as fully compatible with cIOS d2x v10-beta 52 in the compatibility list. For some reason it fails on v11...

I tried to download v10 (beta 52 and beta 53-alt) through ModMii, but it's not even listed, which adds to my idea of it being obsolete now.

Is that the case? Please let me know - and thanks.

I would think so, otherwise the older versions would be provided alongside the new one so people could choose depending on the game

which wiiware? so other people can try

you could also download the older ones manually and see if it works as expected

https://sourceforge.net/projects/d2x-cios/files/

if you can confirm that it doesnt work with v11 but works with v10, then I would probably make some kind of bug report, but I'm not sure where to

I am in the process of trying most WiiWares and will make a comprehensive list of the non working ones.

As of now, these don't work with d2x-v11 (38, 56, 57, 58 in 248, 249, 250, 241):

Note: I am using NTSC WiiWares in a PAL Wii. This is apparently not an issue for virtually all ISO/WBFS disc images as well as 75% of working NTSC WiiWare. As soon as this list is complete I will check if using PAL WADs helps in any way. In the meantime let me know if you also fail to load these in Loader GX vanilla emuNAND (no Neek!).

Modmii can still build even v1 of d2x, or v11 beta 1 with fakemote (FM) built in

Choose it from Modmii's options, or download page 4, or the advanced downloads page

For completeness here's some d2x cios info I shared in your other thread.

V8 final, v10 beta 52 and v11 beta 1 are all pretty much the same. Iirc maybe some compatibility improvements for a handful of hdd's, but nothing too material

V10 beta 53 alt is very different, but not recommended unless the others above fail with a particular hdd

Side note, might be better to keep your issue all in on thread instead of spread across 4 or 5 at this point, lol 😂

Failure rate is aroune 46 over 214 titles. This means that at least 78.5% works, which is excellent considering I still have to try to run the failing WADs in their respective PAL version. Does anybody else have the same errors I document above?

There's no replacement for beta53, in other words there's no v11 that supports both USB ports, so v11 isn't a full replacement for v10. Most people don't need that though.

I think you're currently running into the longstanding loader issue, where certain games won't work if you don't first install them to your NAND before you create an EmuNAND via the loader

And that issue exists because when installing WAD files to the EmuNAND via the loader it doesn't always copy over any shared content
Screenshot_20241110_132015.jpg

Edit: how have you been installing content so far? Using showmiiwads or the loader?

Edit2: "Basically, the ones listed as working on this list should work with d2xb1 https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Wii_cIOS_EmuNAND_Compatibility_List
As long as the games installed to the EmuNAND correctly"

Last edited by XFlak,
I actually found out about this yesterday morning. I tried installing a single title in the NAND and then several titles which gave me a black screen before started working. It is actually a valid suggestion. I will try the very few remaining problematic titles (using PAL versions of the failing titles above solves 80% of the issues though.)
Post automatically merged:

I used showmiiwads, but the loader seems to also work fine 90% of the time.

Some titles can't work on Neek either:

Bejeweled 2 (random freezing when loading savegame)
escapeVektor (black screen; also fails with realNAND)
Liight (reboot loop)
MDK2 (black screen)
Paper Wars (black screen)
Reel Fishing Channel I and II (25% speed)
Rubik Puzzle Galaxy (black screen)
Swords and Soldiers (freezes after logos)

9 failing out of 214 is a 96% compatibility rate by the way... incredibly good.

If I am to try making there run with v10-beta53alt which IOS number should I choose? 56? 57? 58?

I am looking for help with similar issues. I owned a small number of WiiWare and VC games. I have recently with @XFlak's help changed my North America Wii to a European Wii, so that I can play with RGB scart. For the most part, my NTSC disc-based games seem to run fine when using Force PAL-60. Most WiiWare games seem to work with Region Patch. Other settings I think are all defaults.

However, Bonsai Barber is the one tripping point on my WiiWare (of those that I care about). I've tried all the different video options and a good few combinations. Mostly, the best I can get is when Forced to NTSC but this is not ideal as it's in red via scart (S-Video) rather than RGB. And this only gets me to the health warning screen. As soon as you move on it displays the message "An error occurred. Refer to the WIi Operations Manual". The text is in red and the background is kinda yellow.

Occasionally when testing the game gets as far as the game title splash screen, but then it immediately locks up.

@Duamutef_MC it seems you have a solution, but I don't understand what steps you have taken to make it work?

I haven't worked out a way to install a game to the system menu, if that's what's meant by installing to the NAND first. I'm just running games via Emunand as that works well enough.

Little help?

Not aure of your meaning, @XFlak but I wait patiently for instructions! When I click the Discord link it opens the app but only into an existing channel, not one for GBATemp…

I did some more testing, taking a systematic approach with a table for the 3 settings that seem to be relevant (video mode, DOL, VidTV patch. I actually managed to boot the game with Force NTSC, All and Off respectively. I even had a chance to cut some branches!

However sadly when trying again it then went to the error screen given above. I lost interest in testing the rest of the settings. For some reason the error sometimes has a yellowish background with a gauze and sometimes it’s a clearer image in red. The game definitely doesn’t seem to like VidTV patch as that has failed on all combinations tried so far.

After several tests with d2x v11 and d2x v8, I have found that some controllers with v11 work worse, they disconnect in some games like Mario Kart, however with d2x v8 they work perfectly.

What kinds of controllers specifically? And what other games besides Mario Kart did u notice this happening?
I have used a PAL Wii, CFG USB loader, cIOS d2x v8/v11, and a normal Wii remote controller without motionplus from China.

I have tried about 10 games and the disconnection error only occurred with Mario Kart PAL and Worms: A Space Oddity PAL on cIOS v11.

You can check It when you start the game since in the image to put the controller strap on, the controller disconnects and turns off.

Today I have done the same tests again and the error also occurs with cIOS d2x v8, it seems that the problem is not the cIOS but the Wii.
I have 2 Wiis, a RVL001 and a RVL101. Well, the RVL101 seems to have less compatibility with Chinese controllers and causes problems in some games and disconnections when starting Mario Kart.
With my Wii RVL001 it doesn't happen.

Just thought I would post my good news. As predicted by @XFlak and thanks to the hard work of both he and @blackb0x, with the latest updates (which I applied via modmii), Bonsai Barber is now working as emunand in USB Loader GX.

Only caveat is that I had to install the European/PAL version of the game, because my original game (NTSC) will only show video in NTSC mode and, because I'm effectively on a European/PAL Wii this shows up all in red (as it doesn't natively support RGB scart, instead defaulting to S-Video). Unlike the vast majority of WiiWare games, Region Patch doesn't work in USB Loader GX's settings. I tried a few combos, to no avail.

Anyway, European/PAL version is fine by me as it seems to be in 60Hz.
