Last week, Nintendo announced that they would be opening a registration for a beta testing for an upcoming Switch Online Playtest Program, with no details about what the actual playtest itself would be, and it was exclusive to users with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

However, upon registration to the program, one of the "important" points before finishing the registration was a specific point about not sharing, discussing or disclosing any of the information about the playtest software itself to others. While limiting, this is in no means any kind of legal NDA as many have been citing, though it's still unknown what the reach and repercussions of breaching said points would have to plausible offenders.

That, of course, didn't last long.

As soon as the playtest went live, the information about the Playtest Program got leaked online.
In short terms, the playtest program was a beta test for an upcoming MMO of sorts from Nintendo, which will be focusing on online interactivity with users to work together and "develop" a massive planet by farming resources and using their creativity, all of this with the aid of tools called "Beacons" which purify the land, with a "Dev Core" being the main hub for players to gather with other players. Some users online are citing some similarities from this Playtest Program to that of Minecraft to an extend.

The Nintendo Online Playtest Program is already closed from further registration, as only 10,000 members were accepted during the registration process, but those that were able to play it got a download code for a 2.2GB software on their Nintendo Switch.

There used to be a time on the Internet when players would abide to what the closed testing programs conditions were but it seems these days nobody gives a damn anymore...
It seems that leaking whatever stuff has become a pissing contest so if you give normies the choice between doing some constructive private playtest or leaking whatever they can of it for social network fame or whatever, they'll choose the later...

I'm not saying leaking stuff is necessarily bad, I enjoy leaked content just as anyone else does but leaking what will eventually become public when you've been given access to it by the publisher for private testing is pretty lame imho...

To paraphrase Influence: The Psychology of Pursuasion, censored information is treated as more valuable and desirable. Nintendo aren't stupid. They knew people would leak information about it and either their plan from the beginning was to use the inevitable leaks to draw attention to it or they accepted leaks were inevitable to conduct the test they needed to.

When you have no regard for things like legality and believe that the corporation should burn to the ground, the shock and surprise that comes when something is leaked early dies when nearly everything they've been planing to release just so happens to leak just before release or just after the intended distribution happens becuase these are much lamer and are blatantly done out of spite because of something that happened a while ago.


Hope those 15 minutes of fame will be worth it for who decided to leak it, since truly independent and motiveless leaks like the Gamefreak leaks and the Gigaleak seems to be a rarity compared to the shit we get nowadays.

Just consider all the circumstances, if Nintendo really cared about it not leaking they wouldn't serve it on a silver platter to 10.000 people without any real enforceable measures, this is their own fault either due to incompetence or simply because they don't really care in this specific instance.

the point is that these "leaks" are getting so common, that it isn't a surprise anymore becuase it just keeps happening so much recently that it's both less suprising given that there still would be a way they'd leak (especially in terms of physical copies since no amount of security's going to change a shop worker going "rouge" for the sake of getting fame for getting the game out earlier) to the point with it also being put on front page news dispite it being as mundane as "oh someone just so happened to get a physical copy early or oh someone just so happened to reveal the super duper 'secret' project!, please don't go out and look for the source yourself!" to the point you have to ask "Is these leaks actually natural or is this out of a vendetta over what the company did some time ago?"
