Heyo, so Im fairly new to the hacking scene and I recently setup my 3DS XL. I have all the games I want and everything its working great, didnt realize have already been reworked to look better and so I found a Pokemon Red version in color that I want to install, however, Im partway through my gameplay of the current game i installed and I wanted to ask : If I remove the CIA file for the currnent game and install the same game just with updated shaders will it still use the save file I have from the first one or will I have to restart from scratch? I was looking for an answer online but not really finding it, I even looked to see if there was a way to imbed the save file from the first CIA to a new one but im not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

you can back it up via checkpoint (name the save something like red 1 to differentiate it), then COPY it on your computer (the directory is 3DS/checkpoint/saves/"game name folder"/"red 1"/), backup a save of the newly installed PKMN Red (call it red 2 for the reason mentioned before), go inside 3DS/checkpoint/"game name folder"/"red 2"/ , now replace the extra copy of the file from the the red 1 folder and replace the one inside the red 2 folder, go into checkpoint, hover over your game that you made a backup named red 2 and hit "restore" and you should be golden! note: i said make a copy earlier incase this doesn't work!

I have a question. A while ago while playing a game I encountered an error. After looking it up there was several threads here with the same error and all of them have the same response: copy all files on my SD card to my PC, reformat my SD card, and copy the files back to my newly reformatted SD card. So I did just that, but when I open my 3DS now, it doesn't show any of the apps installed on the SD card, like FBI, Anemone, Checkpoint or any of the games. Luma itself still works, I can go into godmode and stuff.

Is there any way to solve this? I have all the save files backed up on Checkpoint so if all else fails I can always just reinstall everything from scratch but it would be nice if there's an easier solution.

You probably have multiple ID1 folders. This can easily happen if you use the formatted SD card in your 3DS before you copy all the files back to it.

There are more elegant solutions, but the most straightforward one would be to once again format your SD card and copy all the files back to it while the card is completely empty.

(This assumes you did not do a System Format on your 3DS, which is almost never a useful solution to anything.)

Also it would probably be very helpful if you provided exactly what error you encountered while playing your game.

On my Nintendo 3DS folder there's 2 folders. ID0 and a folder called "Private"
ID0 contains only 1 folder, which yould be ID1
"Private contains 2 folders: "00020400" which contains "phtcache.bin" and "00020500" which contains a folder called "voice" which contains a bunch of numbered empty folders.

How did you obtain this quest? Perhaps it is corrupted at the source.

It's just a standard quest that comes with the base game. There's nothing remarkable about that particular quest, I honestly could've just ignored that 1 quest if it weren't for the fact that beating all main quests are necessary to unlock a special optional quest.

The links you sent suggested that I try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. That had been my plan B from the start if this SD reformat didn't fix the problem. In hindsight it probably should've been plan A but the threads about this error makes it sound like reformatting your SD is very easy so I just went with it without much thought.

No, it says "Booted from the SD via B9S"

Edit: should've also clarified. I read the troubleshoot link, my 3DS definitely can read the SD card. Godmode can access the SD card. But more importantly, while every other installed apps are gone, Twilight (the DSi emulator) is still there and it can still open and play my nds games with save files intact.

Also I dunno if this is relevant but the 3DS also still have the theme I installed from Anemone.

TWiLight is installed to the NAND so it is typical for it to still be present even when nothing else is.

At this point my best guess would be to rebuild the database using the CTRTransfer Type D9 script. Or you can try asking on the Discord; not sure why else this would be happening.

I did check my card with h2testw and it came out fine

I read up on the CTRTransfer post. Just to clarify, do I also need to do the CTRTransfer thing or should I skip it and just go for rebuild database?

No, the script does several completely unrelated things and you do not have to do any kind of CTRTransfer.

I tried doing this, but after the dummy CIAs are created and I try to install them with FBI (via homebrew launcher) it returns

Anyone have any idea what's this problem is?

Hello.

All of a sudden when I wanted to start a homebrew app NTR for example and any other btw. I get the error message SD card has been removed. So I checked on the PC and it seems I can't copy over the Nintendo 3DS folder, but I could do the rest.

Is there a way to save my Nintendo 3DS folder or is it corrupted forever?

As for a new microsd on my New 3DS, will a Samsung work? The Samsung has written Endurance on it.

Edit 2 - it doesn't work again when I put the same card back in my New 3DS.
But the other 8GB card works.

What is this wizardry that the 16GB that doesn't work on my New 3DS, can't do anything with the Nintendo 3DS folder as I tried to copy without luck, but the SD card works on my old 3DS XL. I don't understand.

Is there a type of SD card that works correctly on a New 3DS if this is the case??

I recommend getting a new SD card of some kind and copying the contents over to there (like one of those official Nintendo ones if you don't wanna go on a wild goose chase), or hell if you got enough space: upload your SD cards contents on to google drive as a backup, because overall losing everything is one of the worst feelings in the world.

As for your Samsung SD while there are some pretty bad ones out there, like the blue Samsung one i own that's corrupted, you can check if it's bad or not via a tool called "H2testw", if it does end up being a faulty card you can always consult the
method of purchasing an official Nintendo one be it from amazon or target.
