Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?

  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

That price lol. When will people stop buying nintendos underpowered and overpriced consoles?
When Nintendo stops making enjoyable games? The Series X was the most powerful console this generation and it's all but dead. The PS5 is still struggling to break free of its much less powerful predecessor 4 years later. The Switch was hacked early and piracy was rampant, you could even play the games better on a PC. Yet it's one of the best selling consoles of all time.

  • Backwards compatible, Going to have multiple styles of system at the onset so a lite and normal, No love from EA or Rockstar this generation, the system is going to have a overheating issue that causes screen burn...j/k

Part of what made Switch successful was plenty of new games but also they went through their history and remade and re-released a ton of games.

I'm not sure how Switch 2 will recreate that because they're running out of games to re-release. They should do Mother 3 and remake Earthbound, maybe even a new entry in the series but they seem to have no interest in the series. I'd also hope for Astral Chain 2 I really enjoyed the first one. I'm not really big on doing predictions because I have no idea what a company will do I just put what I hope will happen.

For price I'll say $399 for the lower model with less internal space and $450 or maybe $500 for the model with the most space. That's what they did on the original Switch 16 gb vs. 32 gb. Hopefully with more space than the original Switch.

  • Name - I hope for something nostalgic like 'Super Nintendo Switch', 'New Nintendo Switch' or Switch Too.
  • Launch price (base model) - Base model will be 449 USD I think. And a bundle with a 'new' special version with a game, just like what they did with 3DS and New 3DS will cost 549 USD.
  • Release date - March 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Super Mario Odyssey 2, Splatoon 4, Zelda BOTW Remaster or a Zelda BOTW/TOTK Remaster bundle, DBZ Sparking ZERO!.
  • Any other predictions - Announcement 8th October, Pre-order: November 18th 2024. Backwards compatible with the OG Switch, UI with themes this time. Also I hope for transparant stuff like the N64 era.

Name - Switch Magnetic
Launch price (base model) - 399 USD
Release date - I agree with a March 2025 announcement but I think it will come out in July 2025 so the kids can buy it during the summer.
Launch titles (launch window) - Pokemon Legends ZA, Zelda Breath of the Wild Remastered, Splatoon 4, Metroid Prime 4
Any other predictions - It will play 4k in docked mode, and 1080p in handheld mode, the joycons will snap with magnets instead of rails, the screen will be 8 inches, it will come in OLED, it will have more accessory function with its USB c port, it will support FSR like the Steam Deck, it will be VR compatible. I think it will also have more filesystem functionality (eg folders, being able to play music and movies like the DSi and 3DS).

Name: Switch Go
Launch price (base model): 349.99
Release date: 2025-04-21
Launch titles: Metroid Prime 4, even more Zelda HD re-releases and obviously yet another fire emblem game

No Go-exclusive titles, as everything will be backward compatible with the previous switch. Games can be enhanced (texture resultion, frame rate, resolution) on new switch go though.

No hall effect sticks. Same as before: cheap drifting sticks. Same battery runtime as the oled model.

[...] That's what they did on the original Switch 16 gb vs. 32 gb. Hopefully with more space than the original Switch.
I think you're mistaken with the storage.
The original had 32GB of storage on release (and still now).
The OLED version is the one that has more storage, 64GB.

- Switch 2
- $399
- April 2025
- Mario Kart, 2D Mario, 3D Mario
- Backward compatibility

They just came out with a brand new 2D well of course technically it's 3D but game moving left to right last year in Wonder, you think they'll already have ANOTHER one by Switch 2 launch?

It will just be another glorified toaster based on 5-6 year old phone technology. I'm just hoping the ryujinx/suyu devs get emulators working for it in a year or so after they release it. fwiw i buy games nearly wherever possible. hell, i own nearly every game that sega has made on steam. nintendo however with their draconian attitudes towards emulation, fan games and art etc means they can get stuffed and arent seeing a dime from me. Maybe if i was on the go more than i am i may bite the bullet but im at home more often than not. and Nintendo are assholes who only treat their workers and shareholders well, they treat the people who make them there money ie the customers like garbage and have done for a long time. If they have no respect for me, i have zero for them

Unlike sony, i bet its only going to cost nintendo $80-100 max to produce each of these units also, then they will charge $550-600 for it. They make a ton from hardware sales unlike Sony or Microsoft who make their consoles at losses, charge full price RRP for 9 year old games and never discount them and they sue the shit out of anyone who dares to make a fan game based on their IPs. Unlike SEGA who just gives them jobs and publishes there work and make a monza out of it like Sonic Mania, Nintendo just bankrupt the people who do it. Unless they wake up to themselves and start putting their games on PC/Steam they will continue to never see a dime from me.

Name: Switch 2
Launch price: $399
Release Date: 12 April 2025

Other predictions: Cartridge compatible at the start, not compatible with Switch online games after a while

The new Switch will be named Nintendo Super

It will be announced in February and release on April 20, 2025

It will come with a multi sports game (Super Sports?).

The base system will be $400.

It will come with a stylus, dock, wiping cloth, and charger.

The joycon will still be mechanical joysticks, instead of hall sensored joysticks. The joycon will not have the same drifting issues because there will be some sort of redesign of the mechanism inside the joystick.

The Switch Super will come preloaded with a puzzle (such as sliding tiles) or painting game/app.

It would be great if it came with solitaire and minesweeper, but that probably will never happen.
