I got my mom to buy me an unpatched V1 Switch for my birthday because I wanted to play my Switch library on my TV, since my Switch Lite could not do so, and so I can get a modded Switch without soldering a modchip into my Lite.

I've been thinking of performing a jailbreak on the console after Nintendo fully discontinues the Switch, but I wanted to ask you all if it is safe to do so as of right now.

My family isn't paying for NSO anymore, and I usually only play offline singleplayer games, but I'm still worried about getting banned from the eShop, as I spent lots of money on there that I don't want to go to waste.

Also, my main reasons for wanting a modded Switch are Android, Overclocking, and Game Mods.

With that, I wanted to ask the question: Should I mod my Switch now or later?

No reason not to now if you do it right. Follow the guides to set up an emummc on your SD card, and only use that for CFW, while keeping it blocked from Nintendo servers. You can do all the hacking and piracy you want on emummc, while keeping real emmc squeaky clean and safe for official online use if and when you want it. All the details are in the hacking guides.

Thank you, I'll go check them out.

Hi! I have a v1 switch with 4.1.0 fw. is it usefull to keep the system on this firmware? and is pegaswitch could be usefull for me?
Well... you can run FakeNews IIRC and negate the need for a dongle... no big deal. AutoRCM and i almost never need my dongle.

so, as long as you don't use eshop, or nso, you're basically fine. if you're really paranoid, you can use 90dns or smth and block nintendo's servers. if you do that, you're fine.

Until you're not trying to cheating/overclocking in some games (most from big N) while using semistock, everything will be fine. Also, you can have multiple sd cards for OFW, Linux/Android.

I'd do it now. I bought all my games before I decided to finally mod my v1 switch when they announced the switch 2. I sold them all along with my retro collection :(.

Just make sure you have DNS blocking properly set up (or just don't connect to wifi) or you will get banned, even if you got banned though you still have the legit console and they don't ban accounts, so you would still be able to use your account on that.

Like others have said, Nintendo won´t discontinue the Switch anytime soon.
There will be a crossgen period when the Switch 2 comes out and depending on how successful Switch 2 will be, this period will be longer or shorter.

since the reader can easily break if you are unlucky, I would probably advice them to get a bigger sd instead of getting multiple SDs and switch between them.
Also overclocking is also fine in most games, just be careful while using it in online games against other players, since it could be seen as an unfair advantage, so mostly just from a fairnes perspective. But for example since I also use sysdvr, I often play with higher cpu clocks, which also includes splatoon 3 online.

About the main topic
Also if you want to use backups, piracy or install homebrew to the home menu, so everything that requires signature patches, make sure the emuMMC/emunand is setup properly, and that you block nintendos servers on it.

If you instead just want to play around with normal homebrew launched via title overwrite (holding R while starting any application or game) and sysmodules like Sysdvr, just download atmosphere and boot it with its default settings on teh SysMMC/sysnand.
This will not block nintendos servers and allow you to normally go online in it, which is mostly safe for this and how the atmosphere devs intent it to be used. I'm doing this for years by now, without any problem.

If you want to use romhack and cheats, it depends on the game, just inform yourself beforehand if people got banned in that game for using romhacks and cheats of the type you want to use. If it seems like they are safe for online systems, you can just use them on the Sysmmc, if its not clear, it might be better to use them on either while staying offline on the SysMMC, on an offline emuMMC or with an emulator on pc.
