Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

Name: If we’re looking at previous Nintendo names, the new console is definitely gonna be something one worded, simple (Ex: Wii, Switch) and maybe something that tells the gimmick of the console (Ex: DS- Dual Screen. 3DS- 3D. Switch- Switch from home console to handheld) I don’t know what gimmick the new console is, it sounds likes it’s just an enhanced switch, so there is a chance they might go a safe route and call it “switch 2” or some suggestive ideas, “Nintendo Fusion” “Nintendo Dual” “Nintendo Unite” “Nintendo Beyond” “Nintendo Frontier”

Base Price: The switch is still gonna be in the market for a few more years, so it can’t be 300, nor 350 since the OLED (unless there’s a future discount) so definitely somewhere $375-450. Cheaper than the PS5 for competition sakes and not too expensive so the demographic audience can still afford eventually (Teens/young adults)

Release Date: Mid 2025 or fall (In time for holidays), if we're getting an announcement next year, if not then I hope somewhere around April, mid spring right until a summer boom sales

Launch Titles: I still strongly believe that Metroid Prime 4 is a cross gen title, and will be one of the Switch 2 launch Titles, but it won't be the only one since it ain't the most recognizable IP, so most likely some port of a Mario or Zelda game we hadn't seen. (Wind waker HD *Wink wink* and NSMB I guess) then an original game from them later the same year, most likely Mario will be first considering his 40th anniversary is next year, they'll surely pump a brand new 3D game to celebrate and to demonstrate the new console's features (Similar with Odyssey) or another collection out of laziness (Which has happened before) A brand new original title similar to 1-2 Switch is possible, maybe it could be free in the home menu like Space Raiders, Pokémon Legends Z-A is kinda likely as well as hopefully the rumored Mario Baseball

Other Predictions:
- 128-256 gb storage
- 7-10 hour battery life
- LCD Screen
- 4k resolution tv mode (It's starting to become common now) 30% of really happening tho
- Backwards compatibility (No shit)
- Ethernet Port
- Customizable Rumble Settings
- Improved dock where you can adjust the plug ins (Similar to that one patent)

Alright, here goes:

  • Name - Switch Up. Total shot in the dark but I think it's about as realistic as any of Nintendo's other names
  • Launch price (base model) - £329.99
  • Release date - US release date will be 18th August 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) - I think it'll launch with Splatoon 4, Pokemon Legends Z-A, and BotW/TotK Remastered.
  • Any other predictions - Backwards compatible, comes with a redesigned dock with better air cooling, and has an OLED screen as standard. Total wild card danger guess: no amiibo support.

Wouldn't it be a bit crazy to announce a better console right when people are shopping for Chrimbo? I have to believe they really want that all time best selling record for the Switch.

If the Switch 2 is releasing with a new flagship mario game by March, then they need to announce it ASAP to have that 6 months marketing time.

  • Name - Switch 2
  • Launch price (base model) - $450 base model.
  • Release date - November this year.
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Mario & Luigi: Brothership (upscaled versions).
  • Any other predictions - AR/VR glasses support in docked mode.

If they make it at like £300 to screw with Sony it will be hilarious
The PS5 Pro looks more like a PS5 Slim redesign and simply too expensive for two reasons, 1) consoles should never cost that much, 2) it's part of a current-gen console than a new-gen.
400$
Probably going to launch with a Mario 3D game and a port of TOTK
"TotK Deluxe Edition"

" Nintendo 8" doesn't sound like a good name and even more if its MK were to be titled Super Mario Kart. And CD/DVD have small storage these days, plus, it's a tad too big for a handheld.

Whatever the next Switch is named, it's guaranteed they won't screw up like $ony has done themselves.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
If they want people interested in rebuying another Zelda, let it be the almighty Twilight Princess than that thing.

My thinking is Nintendo will want the new machine out before the end of the financial year to boost their end of year financial figures. Plus the Switch was announced in October 2016 so Nintendo weren't bothered about Christmas sales back then.

Here I go:
  • Name - Nintendo Reverse
  • Launch price (base model) - $399.99 USD MSRP
  • Release date - Summer, 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Super Mario Odyssey 2, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2, and Metroid Prime 4
  • Any other predictions - Backwards compatibility with the original Switch.

A few years ago Miyamoto hinted that there is a clever and innovative gimick in the Switch 2!!

Also there is some virtual Reality 3d code stubs found in software, leads me to think that the Switch 2 will also plug into some headset?

In oppose to this Miyamoto has always hated VR, he didnt work on the Virtual Boy and left it to Gumpei San.

so maybe the switch can act like a puck to a 3D headset, imaGINE PLAYING METROID 4 in VR, though?

I predict a kickstand that is twice as big and some silly label that tries to tell you it has some AI accelerator onboard that can play your games even better, will improve general system stability to enhance the user's experience while bringing world peace at the same time.
This is going to be awesome!

  • Name - New Nintendo Switch (lol just like the New Nintendo 3ds)
  • Launch price (base model) - $369.99
  • Release date - Q2 2025 (April - June)
  • Launch titles (launch window) - We are going to see a Mario game (like New SuperMario or Supermario Wonder) and maybe a Mario Kart. Predicting a Zelda game also or at least a DLC for Tears of the Kingdom.
  • Any other predictions - Backwards compatibility is a must. And if there is a Joycon type controller, it will have no drift issues lol

Okay, I'll take a shot at this.
  • Name - I don't know for sure, but I'll go with Nintendo Vision, possibly to make up for VirtualBoy's failures. I want it so much to be a different name - I swear, if it ends up being called Switch 2 or Switch Pro instead, I'll probably puke!
  • Launch price (base model) - USD$349 to $449.
  • Release date - March 2024, to end their fiscal year with a boost.
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Probably something Mario or Zelda related, based on their track record. Some titles to show off the console's unique features, for sure, just like ARMS and Snipperclips did for the Switch. It will likely debut on the same day with a couple games, one with Mario in it more than likely, with several other key titles being done over the spring. I doubt it will include remasters and remakes early on.
  • Any other predictions - Better VR support, half-again the power of the Switch, no backwards compatibility, has portability, 4K upscaling (which probably won't be as good as other consoles), limited smartphone support due to their stubbornness about being a dedicated console manufacturer.

  • Name - iSwitch
  • Launch price (base model) - 349
  • Release date - March 10
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Mario 3D game, Mario party, mario kart, 1 2 switch 2
  • Any other predictions - model 5g support
