Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

I think it will go for the same amount, $400 and have the same Ethernet onboard, same Wi-Fi chipset (Sadly), and You get a dock and joycons with power brick and HDMI like last time. No bundled games until much later in 2026 when they start dropping special editions.

$299-$399. going much more than that puts it out of the affordability window for the key market they are trying to hit. children.

when did kids all of a sudden get huge bankrolls to play video game? if video game industry wants to succeed they have to be priced to where enough kids can play the games or its not cool and there isnt the social aspect of gaming. just entitled rich kids playing with each other while poor kids have to find other means of entertainment.

i hope nintendo thinks of the children when pricing

I’ll go with a January announcement, early to mid May release date… A lower end SKU with less storage at £380, a higher storage model at £420…

Expecting to see Monster Hunter Wilds coming to the system, would be nice for a launch title. Would also expect to see a Mario game at launch. With some luck Mario Kart 9.

That’s it for me!

Edit:
Forgot to name it! I’ll go traditional with the Super Switch. It’s weird enough to be real lol

I think it will still be called Switch but with some sort of qualifier like Pro or Enhanced. I'm not convinced there will be any gimmicks perhaps just a slightly different design. It will probably be announced in April/May and release in June/July 2025. As far as the price, it all depends if/when Nintendo halts production of the current Switch, but I'm expecting around £379. I really hope Metroid Prime 4 is a launch window title.

Name - Nintendoverse
Launch price (base model) - 359.99
Release date - March 14, 2025
Launch titles (launch window) - New Mario game (Mario Iliad), Mario kart 9, Port of Twilight princess HD and Windwaker HD
Any other predictions - the R joycon will have a screen and you can play little games on it similar to the VMU on Dreamcast - it's also used to give player's information in multiplayer games and track other things like part of the HUD
