Hello, I've got a Japanese old 3DS in Cobalt Blue color a few days ago from ebay (the seller lucky eight trading).
Once I turned on the battery was half charged then imediately went to 0% and powered off the system. I tried charging the 3DS but as soon as I plug the charger in it, it doesn't charge, the led doesn't light up and it does nothing...
I found that the port and charger are not broken and working properly (what i've seen is that if i use my powerbank and the usb cable for the 3DS, the powerbank turns on for a second then stops).
I was suspecting on the battery that came with the unit because once I remove the battery from the 3DS, then used the powerbank and the usb cable to "charge" the 3DS, the powerbank started on and off, repeting again and again, but the 3DS led still doesn't light up. So I found that the port and the charger aren't a problem. I think the battery is, which it is a knock off 2000mAh battery that lasts 30 minutes from a full charge (fully charged using an universal battery charger)...
For images about the battery and the 3DS I have, check the attachements.
Now, what you guys think? What is the issue causing the 3DS not charging? I am suspecting on the battery but now I'm not sure entirely, considering that the battery works on the 3DS...

Thank you!

So that's what I've said. Now I've ordered a new 3DS battery (this time I went with the capacity of 1300mAh, like the OG Nintendo batteries had) and I'll see if it is trully the battery issue or just the motherboard partially broken...

Your problem might be the charge port, seem like work was done on it.

90% positive feedbacks may be the lowest I've ever seen from a big ebay seller, even the crappy chinese ones usually have like 95-97% lol. Ask for a partial refund, you're on ebay, ebay will side with you if the seller doesn't. With the partial refund money, get a new battery. Tbh you could even ask for and obtain a full refund, up to you.

That's what I've tried now (partial refund) but the issue is that ebay redirects me to make a return and fully refund the 3DS, which I don't really want that lol...
About the battery, I've ordered another one (from ebay again ;-; ) and I'll wait getting it and testing it out.
Thank you for you both for helping me!

You can try this:

ask for a partial refund directly to the seller by messaging him
wait for his reply and if he lowballs you, stay firm
if you can't reach an agreement or he ignores you, let ebay step in and they will side with you 99%

Trust me, this seller makes good money by simply hoping people won't bother to do this very thing and what happened to you is not a rare occurrence at all, we can very clearly see from his feedbacks that he does these shenanigans over and over.

I wrote them a message on ebay app. I hope I'll get an answer about this.

Yeah that's fair. I've got especially from this seller because it was cheap and one of my friends bought it from they too, so I had a 100% confident to buy it.
Thanks for helping me by the way. I appreciate your efforts! 🙂

The fuse and the inductor could also be dead on the main board near the charge port.

This thread should provide some helpful info on the fuse / inductor.

And this post can give you some idea on where to obtain replacement parts if needed (shipped from UK) or Google the equivalents locally if possible.

Just as an FYI the battery forms part of the circuit and the 3DS won't turn on without one present. The battery may well be faulty with an internal short (although one might expect that to cause a catastrophic battery failure/ fire) which is also why the 3DS won't turn on, and the battery voltage went to 0% immediately. However, if you can charge the battery externally, and it holds a reasonable voltage (around 4 - 4.2v), then it might be fine.

Lastly, no one "deserves" to get screwed by ebay sellers.

I fricking like you all! LOL
I contacted ebay support about a partial refund after the seller didn't write me a message for a week and guess what? They talked with the supervisor and they helped me with the full refund of the whole 3DS (around 110 euro)! :D
So, after all, it looks like it's an issue with the 3DS itself not charging (probably an IC blew up or something idk lol) (i checked another charger and battery and still same thing). But at least I'm happy that I will recover the money I paid for it and I can keep the 3DS too (they said).
Thank you so much for helping me guys! I really appreciate that! :)
