Hacking Hardware R4 can’t open gba slot

So as the title says my current r4 doesn’t seem to have the slot-2 option to open gba games is there a way to fix this or is there a different card I should be using?

slot-1 = NDS cartdrige/R4/M3/DSTwo...etc...
slot-2 = gba cartdrige/rumble pak/expansion pak...etc...

If you want to open gba games (.gba files) you have to install GBARunner2 standalone or Twilight Menu++ for flashcard otherwise if you have a ds lite with an EZ Flash 3in1 you have to use an old version of HBMenu (0.4.1, for keeping the hardware compatibility) to launch GBAEXploader bypassing your original R4 firmware.

So I have an GBA flashcart
but my r4 doesn't have an option to open slot 2 games I've tried to start actual games as well but the option is still marked as config instead of opening the game

Does that mean you've tried starting the GBA cart from the regular DS menu, or that you've tried to start the game from the R4 menu?

ok let's try this with your R4 (the one the picture) :

1. download TWL++ & YSMenu (from the links above)
2. install the firmware of your R4 on a sd card
3. install YSMenu & TWL++ on your sd card
4. put your R4 in your DS & turn your console on
5. launch TWL++ with YSMenu
6. launch your gba roms with GBARunner2 included with TWL++

Update the card to the latest WOODR4 firmware, and it should be there.

That I've tried starting it from the regular DS menu and the r4 menu and it only works from the regular ds menu, while trying to start it through the r4 menu it says no cartridge in slot2

hmm... i think i missed your request, so if i understand correctly, you would like to boot a gba cartridge from your R4 menu, maybe you should try this: https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/Boot_GBA_with_Frame#top

Edit : if it doesn't work directly, you should try to launch it (Boot GBA) with HBMenu or YSmenu, slot-2 is not always recognized depending on the flashcard models but the problem can be solved by going through menus like YSmenu or HBmenu 0.4.1 which will recognize slot-2 and make it accessible again.
