Is my USB-C port broken? What are the fixes?

Edit: So, the problem is, the USB-C isn't transferring data anymore. Charging and video pass through the dock works, but anything regarding data transmission (LAN adapters, USB controllers, and injecting payloads) does not work. It has just broken overnight, and I suspect some internal component has broken due to some surge problem. Does anyone know the exact chip or component that needs to be replaced?

UPDATE: An update to anyone interested: indeed the thing broken is the USB-C port and not any CPU chip. I tried again and the ethernet adapter works but it is extremely finicky. I have not send it to get fixed but yeah, the solution appears to be to weld a new USB-C port, though I heard it can be a little risky.

NEWER UPDATE: shit was just dusty lol. Open it up, clean it up and it should get fixed. A toolbrush won't do, at least it didn't for me.

It's not the USB port that is broken, it's the chip on the mainboard that controls the data lines. Nintendo cheaped out and didn't install any surge protection, which is why this can easily be damaged. As far as I know there is no inexpensive way to fix this.

Goddamn, thanks again for the quality control, Nintendo. So my only option is to replace the whole motherboard with one compatible with my unpatched Switch? Might as well buy a whole new Switch. Or can I replace just the chip? I really have no experience with this kind of stuff.

I've definitely heard of people replacing that chip. If replacing surface mounted components isn't within your experience and you don't feel confident about doing it, then find someone who does Switch repairs (I see ads on Facebook marketplace for one thing) or talk to a local phone repair shop about it.

Out of interest, do you happen to know which chip needs to be replaced?
There is a schematic and list of components for hac-001 in this guide under step 11 and 12

Thank you! I guess I'll have to go to some phone repair shop and hope it isn't too expensive.

Don't get your hopes up but make sure you take a pin or a wooden toothpick or something and very gently scrape out and around the usb-c port.

they are notorious across all devices for getting dust and bits or lint trapped in them which can stop them from functioning or making a clean connection.

Yeah, already tried cleaning it up and doesn't appear to have fixed. Definitely the chip must have got busted.

Does anyone know the exact chip responsible for the data lines? Can't figure it out with the video honestly.

In the video he says the M92T36 is responsible for switching between charging and video pass through (at 6:10mins). So it's not the chip causing the problem discussed here?

Does that mean the CPU itself is damaged? I wish someone with actual knowledge regarding this would chime in.

Sorry to refloat this but I'm kinda desperate. Anyone that has encountered this problem and fixed it could enlighten us? If the problem is on some chip I'm considering sending it to Nintendo but I don't know how expensive it would be.

What's the point of "confirming" games you know will get released. Like Nintendo "confirming" a Zelda sequel. "We can't be sure Nintendo is working on a new Zelda game, or if a new Zelda game will ever be released, until they officially confirm it."
