Hey everyone!

I am trying to download some media (some videos I own) and I cannot find a good way to transfer files to my 2ds. Is there a Homebrew app that lets you download files to your SD card from a QR code. Kinda like FBI remote install, but for files.

FTP is of course an option, but QR works better for me.

I don't think that's possible for other type of files, other than (cias) games for the moment..
So ftp might be your only way. Also the speed shouldn't a concern since it's about the same.

To clarity, do you mean it isn’t possible due to hardware/software restrictions, or just in terms of people developing applications for the 3ds that download all files?

Also, if I were to develop something for the 3ds to scan QR codes and download playable files, would that be of interest to people? (my idea was to create a YouTube “2.0” for the 3DS)

More like the latter. like i said, the existing QR code use is for downloading either homebrew apps or games. There's no homebrew software or any other way (as of now) to download other type of files, and for them to be saved in a specific directory (sd card)..

Maybe. while i'm no dev or anything to tell you how easy or hard will be.. Though any efforts to bring something new to the community is always appreciated here!

And.. Did you?

Couldn"t any file just be renamed as a .cia file, and then be transferred as QR code to the 3DS cia folder using FBI where we can rename it back to its original file type?

How exactly does QR code work "better" than FTP?

What exactly is it that you think QR codes do?
Normally, I don’t bring my PC with me to most places, so it’s much easier to just have it scan and download at slower speeds than FTP where all of my devices are free from having FTP apps open.

You can use ftp with a phone, and transfer stuff to the 3ds with it, or is that not an option for you?

Solid Explorer has a built in FTP server and client, which is what I use on my phone any time I need to transfer files and I'm not at home.

Do you just want to upload something to a remote server and then download it again later? I think you can use 3DSync with Dropbox.

but wait, what about multidownload? the thing released in 2016

f

from my experience, it can do what youre saying isnt possible, unless i misread (if so, sorry! im still trying to learn english)
Transfering all kinds of files through QR code scanning with this "multidownload" software? Have you actually tried it in a 3ds system, or are you just theorizing?

All a QR code does is store a url. In the case of the QR codes you are talking about, the url they store points to a .cia file which FBI can install. The fact that these are .cia files matters only because those are the only files FBI cares about. Since FBI can download files, even though it is picky about the files it downloads, it follows that it should be possible for a software to download any file from a url.

There is no reason a .cia file can be downloaded while a .zip for example cannot.
Oddly, I have yet to find a software capable of this.

Multidownload claims to download any file from any url, and it does work. Or at least it did six years ago. I have tried multidownload and get some sort of strange protocol error. Not like I can raise an issue on the github, that software was archived. But it served an important function that the 3ds should be able to.

Anyway, I'm here because I also want a way to download non-cia files such as roms without using FTP.

Not sure why you're bumping a six-month-old thread that is at best tangentially related. But never mind. Too late for that now.

What's wrong with FTP?
You have said this same thing over the last year, and reading it bothers the heck out of me, because *obviously* there is some use/benefit to having QR codes or we wouldn’t be downloading virtually all the software we use on our 3DS’s *using* QR codes, in FBI!

The key benefit, which applies here, is that you can store whatever files you want on a web-server, and then download them to your 3DS without needing any other devices, just WiFi. The original poster wanted a way to download files on the internet, in this case roms, quickly and without needing another device.

That’s what FBI’s remote functionality does, but just for CIA files. Why not for other files?
