Why are Americans so freaking sensitive

*Disclaimer* if you get offended by anything I say, that is not my attention however, you'll be proving my point.

I've been thinking lately (a dangerous pastime I know) but I've noticed that Americans are extremely sensitive. What ever happened to "suck it up" or "get over yourself"? For example I have said that I do not agree with homosexuality but I still am friends with and love homosexual people despite me not agreeing with this lifestyle, of course I was still called homophobic and got a lot of hate by some pansies who couldn't respect other people's thoughts. Another example is the is viewpoints on celebrities and the like. I've noticed people being unnecessarily bashed for not liking a generally liked person or vice versa. The most extreme example is something I saw today. There was a video of a photographer being observed by a young elk. It showed mildly hostile behavior as it would bend it's head down and buck the man who was sitting on the ground. He stayed down so he wouldn't upset the elk and he got away unharmed. The elk was later put down for "repeated aggressive behavior". At least 80% of the comments said that the man had performed animal abuse because the elk was put down even though he did absolutely nothing to harm it. People went as far as to say that the man should have been put down. This begs the question. What causes us Americans to be so easily offended and hate others just because they differ in opinion? What do you guys think?

As for the sexuality topic, it's ok to prefer women over men, but not to bully and harass homosexual males. It's the stupidity of americans what is causing this (by this I am NOT implying you are one of them). Here's an example:

In this piece of shit we clearly see the average american, unaware that time regions is NOT time travel. Dumb fuck.
Luckily, most people are not like this.

I'm kind of curious as to how you can have homosexual friends and "not agree" with their lifestyle... and, like, to what point you "don't agree" with it

yo say this like you aren't trying to initiate an "all americans are idiots" circlejerk thread

only some people get offended at everything, and most people don't give a shit
you can't post shit that starts talking down to the average american then be like "LOL YOU MAD XDDD" when someone tries to defend themselves

@TotalInsanity4 It mainly has to do with my upbringing and personal beliefs. I live in a Christian home and am myself, a Christian. My parents make very clear the difference between right and wrong as the Bible teaches it. The Bible teaches that homosexuality is a son but it simultaneously tells us to love EVERYONE. Jesus loved sinners so I choose to do the same, I just can't adopt or endorse their choices.

@TotalInsanity4 Like, I am the same way, He views the person for who they are,
not because of their sexuality.

People are more than their sexual beliefs basically.

Considering I came from the same upbringing, I guess I'll give you some homework
  • Do some serious internal assessment as to whether certain commandments in the Bible carry the same weight; do the six verses regarding homosexuality outweigh the rest of the doctrine of the New Testament? Come to your own conclusion on this one.
  • Seriously consider the fact that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality while he was alive, even though it was commonplace at the time. Again, ponder that and decide what that means for yourself.
  • Remember that you don't need to be homosexual to appreciate who they are as people, but remember that they do see their identity as part of who they are as a person
  • If you have a spare hour, watch this

Some are sensitive, some are think skinned, and some are just thick headed. "People are people" - Depeche Mode

@TotalInsanity4
A) I believe every single word of the Bible is true and applicable and more important than anything so yes, it carries the same weight. There is absolutely no changing my thinking, people have tried.

B) Jesus enjoyed teaching about life and salvation primarily. If he was addressing sins, it was mostly those of false teachers who he was trying to keep the people away from. Going back to the first point, even if Jesus didn't say it himself, if it appears elsewhere it is credible.

I do not mean to sound harsh but I'm extremely firm in my beliefs.

Don't you think he would of though?
Last time I checked, it's supposed to be "Man, Woman, and God."

that is all I am going to say, I am not going to make this into a Debate.

@Nerdtendo so you believe in the 6,000-year-old Earth Creationist model?

Edit: And I'm not asking you to just like. Change your views in an instant, I'm just trying to get you to actually sit down and think about why you believe what you believe. The result either way will be a deepening in your faith, but it will either reveal to you why you have those beliefs (rather than just parroting peers/parents), or lead you to question and improve upon your spiritual life

@Nerdtendo I completely agree with your statement about americans being pansies.

@TotalInsanity4 I'm gonna take Sodom and Gomorrah as my sources for views on homosexuality

G
@TotalInsanity4 by Acts and Facts, do you mean the Bible is Acts and "Theory" is facts?

Sorry, just joined the convo, needing a brain break from school project.

@TotalInsanity4 never heard of that. I am however, smelling the smoke of a flame war that I would like to douse. This is also getting off topic.

The people you talk about are a very small but loud minority in America. They are pretty much the kid in Walmart who is throwing a fit on the floor because their mommy won't buy them the toy that they want. Mommy 'Murica has been giving in frequently instead of just letting them cry it off and now the spoiled brats are teenagers who throw fits because the car they got for their 16th birthday was red instead of blue.

I've brought this up to my siblings on multiple occasions. I can't tell if I just didn't notice people being sensitive when I was younger, or if some (not all) people were always this sensitive.

Tbh I get why some of the sensitivity is justified under circumstances, but I personally do hope that people can go back to being as thick skinned as they seemed to be during my earlier years.
