Feelin pretty miserable

I don't like the cold.

It's North Texas and we have highs of about 15° F. We got 5 inches of snow today. Power is cycling every half hour. We stocked up on firewood so we're fairly warm so I guess that's a blessing to count. I only have internet for certain spots during the day though so I'm having a hard time turning in homework. Electric company says it'll probably be like this until Friday.

My dad is sick with Covid-pneumonia and we're burning through his backup oxygen. We don't know when he'll get better and even when he does he may not be able to work for a very long time, if ever. I may have to delay going to college to try and help pick up the slack. I don't mind not going to college for a bit, it's just a hard truth.

I haven't been this scared for as long as I can remember. Maybe if my dad wasn't sick I'd feel a lot better. I haven't even seen him in nearly three weeks since he first went into isolation. When my mom brought him to the hospital a little over a week ago, some of my siblings saw him on the way out and it really shook them up. Even my brother who isn't scared of anything was trying to hold back sobs. I want to see him, but I don't know if I'll be able to handle it.

If anyone around here prays, please mention me, my family, and my dad tonight if you remember to. Thanks.

Hey man. I'm so sorry to hear that--going through something that stressful and worrying sounds like a nightmare...From one Texan to another, I'll be praying for you, and your family.

PS: Is snow in North Texas as rare and insane as it is in Houston? I hate the cold, but I was amazed by seeing snow for the first time.

This is just a suggestion for your dad you can look into it yourself if you want to be sure, but vitamin D has been shown to aid with recovery from covid. It's been associated with lung health since even before the pandemic. Maybe he's already supplementing it but I just thought I'd suggest it in the off chance his doctors haven't started him on it yet. I really wish I had known about this when I had it.

Hang in there, man. Try to think ahead to better times. Things can't stay like this forever.

@Jayro I'll try my best! I was telling my gf earlier that this is about the time I need to grow up and pull my weight so that's what I intend to do.

Thanks @Chary I really appreciate it. I assure you snow in the Dallas/FW area is just as crazy as Houston. I've seen real, honest to goodness snow about 3 times in my life, and never for more than half a day before now.

@CheifReginod thanks for the tip! I believe vitamin D is one of the supplements among God knows how many other things, but I'll double check in the morning.

@wonkeytonk Probably a backup supply tank of oxygen, as opposed to their regular supply? I dunno, but it's always good to have extra on hand.
