Time spans as you get older

Ok I have a lot of varied interests, but time intrudes on almost anything.

Science, I love science. Occasionally while indulging reading about some form of science or another, I recall, damn, I was born before this science existed.
Say for instance Plate Tectonics. Seems like very common stuff today, but I was here before it. Damn feeling old. Heck I predate things like Black holes and a whole range of interesting quantum mechanics being commonplace.

History, it might be boring stuff to a lot of you kids, but I actually lived through a lot of stuff that a lot of you kids currently call old news.
I watched the moon landing live. God it gets weird thinking of how far back my life goes some days.

Gaming, the first game I played, was THE first game, called Pong. I mean, crap I HAVE seen it all. When I was a kid, playing was done outside, there simply wasn't anything much to do INside.

And durations become seemingly hard to relate to. You likely think school is going to take forever. It's just 4 years eh. Man it seems like yesterday it was 2006, and before that 2002. And before that was Windows 98 which seemed neat once. And before that 1994 and the new Windows was due out shortly. And 1990 was my first computer which had all of a 100 meg hard drive hehe. So many batches of 4 years. 86 I got married. 82 was me finally giving up thinking being a history teacher was ever going to happen. 78 was the year I decided to join the army.

From a personal angle you guys won't likely think of, I muse, that my one big interest in gaming, that being wargaming, and WW2 and dang, that war was if you begin with 39, just 6 years long, and yet so much happened in those 6 years.
But today 6 years is nothing.

I have been online for 10 years. Seems like a blink of an eye though.
Seems like only yesterday I discovered forums.

Too old; did not read

(just kidding)

I've though about this a lot. I mean 4 years seem a lot now, but will it be really in the grand scheme of things for me?

Time flies like an arrow.

Fruit flies like a banana.

(I saw the moon landing too, it was like The Twilight Zone or something, weird.)

I'm only 17 and would have LOVED to see the moon landings. I wish the US hadn't had to cut that new moon project NASA had, and now there's not even gonna be any more shuttle missions after the next 2 :(

In 2015 we'll be getting the first real pics of Pluto though, that's pretty awesome. Hope I'm around to see it, the suspense is killing me.

Aside from age, things like distance from the event and retrospective bias affect perception of time, too. What happens when I think of what the world was ten years ago (WTH, that's 2000, nearly yesterday), the thought that half my life has passed since then is frightening.
Also, this reminds me of the phenomenon of boredom - time appears to pass extremely slowly, since there is a huge distance between new inputs - yet in retrospective, you look at your rather short input log and think that it went very quickly.

Its not the same as having men step on the moon once more. We made it before on 60s tech with calculations that were out by 10 metres, WE CAN DO IT AGAIN! IT MUST BE DONE AGAIN!!! I want to see some real, colour footage of the moon. It would be absolutely amazing.
