So long, my NDS lite!

This happened to my DS Lite also. I just ordered a clear case mod, and it fixed it somewhat.

Maybe it was a bad luck charm. That really sucks. [insert something encouraging here]

thats bad but if it is just the Housing Shell that broke why not by a new one or did something else break ?? My friends Nds lite broke only on the Housing Shell so the thingy holding the screen was broken on the right side. He got a new Housing for it and I changed it cuz I work with repairing Consoles ><

I don't think it's just the housing, my flashcard and retail games aren't recognized unless I put a bit of pressure on it.

I don't have money to buy another one, but I'm thinking about selling my Xbox and get a DSi XL, I don't really use it that much since all I really REALLY wanted to play was FFXIII.

I know it happens, but I didn't think it would happen to ME.

I hope you get the DSi XL then I would sell my PS3 if my NDS broke cuz there are allot of great game for the DS and it is portable but not the ps3 so I rather pick a DS before ps3. ^^

Yeah, that really is too bad. I lost my DS Lite after a casing mod. I don't know if it was just a coincidence or not, but a fuse had blown on the motherboard maybe a day after the mod.

My hinge broke once too. So I sent it in to get fixed.

Then I had to get the D-Pad fixed (Pressing to hard during Mario Kart ) and they had to replace the whole unit due to 'faulty pcb'

Then on my new one, the touch screen acted up once. It kept randomly touching spots until it just crashed. It bricked for 5 minutes, then worked again.

Some on the strangest things have happened to my DSL...

Get a replacement case, and while you're changing the case, take a look at the cartridge slot to see if it's broken in any way, especially the pins. (don't see how it would be, but since you said you had to put pressure, although you didn't say where, it sounds like something's wrong with the cartridge slot)

The cartridge slot pins are under the metal cover which is soldered onto the board, so you'd need soldering equipment, but it shouldn't take much skill. I suck at soldering, and even I could probably have done it

Actually, it sounds like the cartridge slot was hit in such a way that the cartridge bent the metal pins, though I'm not sure how that could happen. :S
However, if that's the case, you should be able to use a small screwdriver or similar to bend them back in place. Just don't bend them too much, metal eventually breaks if you bend it too much.

Well I could have it repaired by some techy person on some random gaming repair shop, but I doubt I can send it to Nintendo since it's probably out of warranty (bought it on 2006 IIRC), and I don't even live on North America, I live in SOUTH America, Chile, to be more specific, they prolly don't ship here.

@sorrycostello, I have to apply pressure towards the catridge slot on the top screen, it just freezes otherwise, after it loads however, it doesn't freeze :S.

Its a slight design flaw in the DSLite. The same thing has happened to my little sister's DSL and my cousin's DSL (both exactly the same as what you have, broken casing under LEDs) All the strain in the hinge is taken by that part so eventually it can't take it. Casemods are pretty easy though.
As for the cartridge thing try cleaning the contacts to see if that helps, sounds like the cart isn't connecting well enough with the DS.

I tought I was the only one lucky enough to break a DS like that... well actually it was my cousin but whatever.........

But I guess I should be happy it lasted so long, since appearently it happens way sooner to other people.

My friend's little brother have destroyed 3 of their DS's(?).
