I've been wandering forums now since 2000. That's 8 years.
But I did it all on places that were haunts of my age group (yes there I go referencing my age again).
It was a totally different experience from GBAtemp, simply because even though there ARE other people here older than a teen, I think we are greatly outnumbered.
Now being older doesn't automatically grant me any benefits, it just means I've had more years worth of chances to experience stuff. So older MIGHT mean wiser, usually does to some extent, but certainly isn't a free ticket to smarter.
But just try learning nothing day after day after day. It's actually not easy to avoid learning things.
So when I read some of the posts here, I witness a lot of things that are clearly just people showing they have not acquired something I probably take for granted.
I never experienced that on my grumpy old people forums. In fact if you said damn near anything, you could almost expect some wise ass to jump on you for the slightest inconsistency in your data.
And my computer guru buddy would laugh his ass off if he read I was implying I was any sort of fountain of knowledge
But he's shown me a lot (about computer usage).
But it has also taken me several years to get to this point as well.
I've been learning tricks for at least 6-7 years now. And when I consider some of the members here, that's a large swath of their lifespan. 6 years to me, nah that's just my 40s.
This site is clearly about all things gaming. And that means all things gaming connected with all things internet.
And while GBAtemp clearly admonishes anything to do with warez and the acting of downloading illegal content, as well as the aiding there of, it's fairly obvious GBAtemp has no interest in caring if we discuss the use of the hardware that make it all worthwhile.
Well, at least I don't support the idea that anyone buys an R4DS Revolution product "just to play home brew". Sorry, I'm not that naive.
And I see a lot of people asking questions here, that just stun me, till I realize, well if you are young enough, and new enough, I guess you can be clueless enough too.
Thing is, a lot of the membership is also plenty lacking in serious enough.
A noob asking a real question amongst a room full of goofballs is likely just asking for trouble.
But the last thing I feel like doing personally, is volunteering for position of on site mature responsible tech help.
Still, I guess I don't mind aiding when I can.
The last thread I read, and really, the responses the guy was getting were simply ridiculous.
But it would never happen on any of the old haunts I used to visit. You simply can't pull some gags off in the wrong environment.
