n00b moment

This is my n00b moment. there are just some things i just don't get. PLEASE, this is a n00b moment! don't be rude, just answer
n00b moment located in spoiler
1) Rom Trimmers: What do they do? i dont get it...
2) Modchips: what do they enable you to do, other than revoke your warranty?
3) Basically, anything to do with hacking and using ADVANCED homebrew on the wii... bootmii, IOSSO or whutever it is, etc.
4) NDS "Flashing": I use R4DS, so what is flashing? also, things like DLDI patching and other things that R4DS overrides.
5) This is TOTALLY offtopic, but how does computer program development work. I know, for a program im interested in designing, most people use Scripting (like Lua or BASIC) and a .DLL file, made with something like SDL. How does one go about making the actual .EXE file?
thx in advance!

1. Ds karts come in standard sizes. such as 8mb, 16mb, 32mb etc. so chances are, when a company develops a game, it's not gonna be exactly those sizes. so they just add in fluff to do so. for example a 33mb game, would have to go on a 64 mb cart having 31mb of nothingness. the rom trimmer simply does away with that.

2. what CAN'T they do lol. they allow u to run roms/isos and homebrew.

3.?

4. flashing basically removes the health warning screen. imo it's not worth doing cuz u can brick ur ds and u only save 1 or 2 seconds.

5. no comment

1. Rom trimmers make .nds files smaller by getting rid of "junk" in them. The game plays like it normally would and everything, it just takes up less space in your memory card. There's absolutely no reason not to trim your roms.
2. Modchips (for the Wii?) let you play games that you downloaded and then burned to a DVD.
3. Um, that's way too vague for me to answer. Look around the Wii Hacking forum, it's there for a reason.
4. Flashing gets rid of the health warning screen and allows you to unbrick your DS in the case it ever bricks.

OK, what i meant with #3 was i dont get any of the terminology in wii homebrew. but dont worry

ABS Is the big one of the common filaments that makes potentially toxic fumes (the others are less common exotic filaments that you're not likely to ever encounter)
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
nylon might not be great either, but it's not a common filament and you need a bit of a fancier 3d printer to print it properly
  • handy333 @ handy333:
    I'll keep that in mind.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
anyway, if you can wait until black friday, keep an eye out then, i saw some nice deals last time
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
PLA is the most common and cheapest, and I'd recommend that to start with as a beginner if you jump into our rabbit hole.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think you can get one of the 3d printers that run klipper for closer to $100 during black friday and that will be far more of a plug & play solution cause it has a lot of intelligent features that take away a lot of guesswork and tuning to get things printing well
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    they're $150+ right now
  • handy333 @ handy333:
I'll try to hold out until black friday. I was going to try to get a steam deck but honestly, I don't think I'd use it that much.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
klipper is what all of the more premium consumer 3d printers (except bambu) run as well, they just add some extra features like built in camera with "AI"
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
being able to get that for cheap is a really good thing for people just getting into the hobby
  • handy333 @ handy333:
Nice, Sounds like a road trip this weekend, or the next.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
still, seen some models cut in price by half during black friday
