My disappointments with the Nintendo Switch, as a (ex) Nintendo fan

I owned all of the Gameboy line. I got a Nintendo DS day-one and a Nintendo 3DS as well, at a price point where the majority of Nintendo 3DS users have not spent. I also owned a Wii that allowed me to play both Wii and GC games. Just a premise.

I will happily skip the Game Boy and the Game Boy Color. Although they had their strong competition, they couldn't do anything to compare. I will also skip the Game Boy Advance because, even though I still think that selling an advanced console without any sort of backlight is criminal, they made multiple versions of a version with light.

The Nintendo DS is my favorite console I grew up with. A big complain I had were cheaters. They were EVERYWHERE and ruined any online game. Games like Metroid Hunters, with a very promising online play, were destroyed by cheaters. You could no longer have fun unless you went into some random forums and play with people you were trusting not to use cheats. Another big complain I have was the console's incompatibility with WPA-protected routers. You had to buy a DSi and play DSi-enchanted games to finally play with WPA. Whatever, I still loved the console.

Then the 3DS was announced and we were promised a lot of things. There was a HUGE list of games that were supposed to come out during the first year and we were also promised graphics much better than the PSP, other than a great 3D experience. These were the problems:

- Console was 249.99 euros
- We were told to buy it now while the price is as it is because it would have gone up
- When the console came out, there were no good games. Just those placehold games to keep yourself busy while waiting for something big to come up
- No eShop
- No internet browser
- We STILL have friend codes to deal with??
- The only game worth waiting for in 2011 was Starfox 3D. A remake of a not-so-successful game
- The 3D effect is great, but you could only see it clearly if you didn't move an inch
- No second analog
- Hardware problems, like the bottom screen hitting the upper one, damaging the screen
- Cameras were trash
- No video playback
- No GBA virtual console

If it weren't for the backwards compatibility with DS games, I would have never supported this console this early. Eventually the games showed up and I started loving it again.
But then the Wii U came out and Nintendo wanted to cripple the console to push people into buying more Wii U. Example? The 3DS version of Mario Maker is a joke.

Regardless of these problems, I've always played and supported Nintendo games and was really looking forward to the Switch. These are my problems with it:

- FRIEND CODES AGAIN???
- Still the hardware damaging itself
- Still the lack of games at launch and nothing in the following months
- No voice chat unless you use a complicated way to
- Awful internal storage
- Expensive
- No internet browser (lol)
- No touchscreen (my mistake, it has it. You can stop writing OMG THE TOUCHSCREEN IS THERE!!11 I SHOWED HIM LOL)
- A highly controversial online pay service even though Nintendo is famous for not giving a damn about online play

I'm sorry, but I stopped supporting new Nintendo consoles. They just can't keep with times. They are making toys, that's it. The only reason for me to buy a Switch would be if they announce a new PMD game. In the meantime, I will wait for the obligatory Nintendo New Switch in two years.

I have yet to find anybody "destroying" my arguments. All I've seen so far are Nintendo fanboys all ganging up on me. I won't back up, don't worry. You can continue your circlejerk. I'm saving all the screenshots for reference later ;)

Hey dude, no need to get so salty. If someone disagrees with you, they aren't somehow a Nintendo fanboy, it's incredibly immature to suggest that.

My favorite part of this blog was Vipera slowly realising over time that his arguments had no grounds so he gradually resorted to insulting more and more people and calling them fanboys.

@Vipera feel free to take screenshots. I wouldn't mind seeing this blog again considering that everything you say is insulting others' opinions, not the matter at hand

Now let me go on a rant about how every one of your opinions is wrong:

  • Friends codes are the best method of exchanging friends. Granted they could allow an option to send friend requests via Online play, it doesn't lock people out of choosing the same scree name.
  • The dock was designed to hold the switch. It is made of plastic, and every piece of plastic in the world isn't made perfect. It could have just one raw edge and it would scratch the screen. That's like saying my computer hardware is faulty because the sticker came off and got residue on my screen.
  • It is a smart move on Nintendo's part not to announce all of their games at once. And by splitting them evenly, it allows for somebody to enjoy each game to its fullest instead of buying Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 and then finishing your enjoyment with all of them just to find that the next good game has yet to be announced. You can't expect all of your favorite games to be launch titles
  • The voice chat can be a nuisance, but it is a step up from Nintendo's past. This also prevents you from meeting potentially unwanted people online. I.e: I wouldn't want my child talking with somebody who swears, insults their every move, and is a pedophile.
  • The internal storage doesn't mean a bad console. I would rather spend 50 USD on a microSD for extra storage than pay 500 USD for a console with 500 GB of storage when there are cartridges still. Internal storage is a luxury, not a requirement. (Plus their games aren't 30 GB a piece like XB and PS)
  • The browser is something that is wanted not needed. I would rather the Switch get hacked in 2 years than tomorrow, just because piracy is a very bad thing for a company. Devs have gone out of business because of piracy.
  • You already acknowledged that the touch screen exists, but it is a better touchscreen than all of Nintendo's other systems. That is not debatable.
  • The online service comes at a whopping 20 USD (i know, expensive right?). I mean, that is one third of XB and PS. Plus, you get retro games all the time for free, when XB and PS let you have newer games that are awful for free (there is the occasional good one but most good games are just discounted)
There. Now you can pick apart each of these statements and tell me how my opinions are always wrong.

FRIEND CODES AGAIN??? I agree with this one

- Still the hardware damaging itself. Every system by every company at launch has issues

- Still the lack of games at launch and nothing in the following months. True but again this is the norm for a console at launch expect a whole lot more games after e3

- No voice chat unless you use a complicated way to. Voice chat on any game or console sucks it's always a bunch of 13 year old screaming a bunch of abuse at people so I never use it and don't mind not having it

- Awful internal storage. Done to keep the cost down and sd cards are really cheap anyways.

- Expensive no it is not expensive if you think it is then get a better job or get your parents to give you more pocket money ect.
- No internet browser (lol) Already covered this and internet is not needed due to everyone having phones ect.

- A highly controversial online pay service even though Nintendo is famous for not giving a damn about online play. In what fucking way is it controversial everyone I know is praising it and the fact that here it will cost £15 a year is amazing plus you get the virtual console games thrown in for that price. £15 on other systems gets you a few months online with ps4/xbone

Alright @Vipera . I also screenshotted every page of this blog. Feel free to take screenshots and change stuff inside of them to make it look like you're right.

I was very bummed with the price decrease so close after release date. I did enjoy Ocarina of Time in 3D, and another release title, but overall I was very angry with Nintendo. I did purchase an Acekard 2i which allowed me to play a lot of DS games I could not play in the past as I did not own a DS.

However now I have B9S installed and even bought a N3DS with the improved 3D (Yeah, I like using 3D as much as possible), and my anger has lowered. I learned from my mistake and I have not bought the Switch. I might buy it if they release a hardware revision, maybe more powerful/cheaper/both.
