My 3DS review.

I really don't care for the 3D that much. I use it like 50% of my playing time.

But it doesn't matter how many new features or whatever it has, it's the fact that it can play new games (Well, as of now, that's kind of useless because all the games stink).

But, I'm still loving my 3DS, and it will only get better with Kid Icarus, Ocarina of Time, and the May update.

Honestly, I like the 3D effect. I turn it off when I'm on the run and stuff, but it's really enjoyable.

It not like you can take 3DS games in put it on a ds. Plus it has that motion sensors in it. Better wifi
support and other stuff.

This isn't just some slight upgrade.

For people 3D doesn't bother it brings a more naturally look to games that regular graphics can not.

Minus the 3D, the 3DS is still a huge improvement over the DS.
3D just makes games look worse, or no better at all. I never have it on because it's an absolute waste of battery life.

Excuse me? 3D bring depth and a natural look to things. That like saying the real world is worse.

Unless you saying ghosting than that the programmer fault or you not holding it right.

You gotta give this boner for 3D up. It's kind of annoying. 3D really doesn't help at all. I've never been playing and thought anything looked better in 3D. It's just a gimmick.
Maybe one day it'll be used right, but that day is not today.

I made it my goal in life to diss 3D for arbitrary reasons.


That MUST be it. Not that 3D is a useless gimmick that does nothing.

I'd rather play my games in graphics that more closely resemble our own world than in 3D. Would I rather have 3D characters that lack the same detail as real life or non-3D characters that contain more of the details in real life?

Really though, turning the 3D off on the 3DS isn't really like turning the touchscreen off on the DS since there are a pretty large amount of games that need the touchscreen. 3D is completely a visual feature and not a necessity to play any game on the system.

3D switch is to be fair for everyone from sight to battery. Other than that fact it would be on all the time. And no it not just a visual feature.

Haven't even seen it yourself to really judge.

Yes it is. It offers nothing for gameplay. All it does is give something more depth.

Even Nintendo's most dedicated fangirls will acknowledge that the 3D, while possibly (in their view) the coolest feature in the world, is still completely aesthetic and improves the gameplay in no real way. If anything it "solves" problems that were solved years ago when 3D gaming (like 3D models and environments, not the 3D effect) was conceived.

I'm starting to hope you're a troll. Because no one can stand by such a baseless argument and not have mental issues. You don't combat arguments with points, you just say people are in denial.

Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't mean they're in denial.
And honestly, I can't see 3D adding anything but aesthetic value; I'm still waiting for the game which uses the 3D as a game changer.

I personally like the 3D. I don't play Samurai Warriors: Chronicles without it. Sure it's a gimmick, but it's a good gimmick. It looks nice IMO and I've never been a graphics whore so it's a super alternative. I mean, people say that graphics are supposed to evolve with new consoles and I can't deny that, because it's true. But the step from DS to 3DS sees a graphical evolution as well as 3D. You're getting the best of both worlds, in a sense. The NGP has supah dupah graphics and I'm still likely to get it at some point, but the obsession with seeing as-close-to-realistic-as-possible graphics in a game is something that just doesn't appeal to me as much as it does others. I prefer to take it slowly .
At the end of the day, the reason we play games is for pleasure and enjoyment. If some people get that from seeing something that looks identical to the real thing in a videogame, then fair enough.
But some people get that enjoyment equally as much from a console that doesn't provide top-notch visuals and does something a little differently, for a change .

for the argument that says that 3d affects gameplay. i think the argument is that it makes distance easier to judge. But in the end, I think this isn't much of an impact at all. touch screen had a much bigger impact on gaming than 3d. the 3ds is new but i dont see developers making 3ds games that requires you to use 3d. i think 3d so far is just a fun feature.

also i remember an argument from kotaku saying that 3d allows you to see more images. like when they showed the sims3 3ds in 3d, they were able to see a flower pot and without 3d the flower pot is gone. not much, but there is a difference.

what i say to that is...isn't a bigger screen better then. the NGP/PSP allows developers to add more things on screen.

anyways, i personally like the 3d effect (although i've been complaining alot about the ghosting, horrible 3d angle,etc), but im not going to be expecting 3d to have a huge impact on gaming. nintendo used the example of us being able to hit blocks easier now that we can better judge distance. Well mario is easy as it is and i never had a problem with hitting a block before. casual gamers might, but they suck at almost everything when i watch them play xD


im curious to see how the 3ds games are like a year from now though. and im equally curious to see how developers use the back touch screen on the NGP (which i think will have a much bigger impact on gaming than the 3ds).
