Eeeeeveryone has beefs. I am no exception. And our beefs, are usually a reflection of our age.
I am not a 15 year old, so I can’t be expected to act like one but I have a 15 year old though, so I get to see what a current 15 year old is like in today’s world. That and I come here, and most of you guys are just children to me (25 doesn’t make you much different to a guy that’s pushing 50).
If asked to name your top 10 beefs, something has to go in the top slot. The rest are well, just the rest.
And as this is GBATemp, a gaming site, I might as well keep it to gaming beefs. Besides, I can’t complain about my parents, I’m an old man myself. And I don’t live in a bedroom, I control the entire home. I don’t have issues with my brother or sister. Brother is 50 and sister is 46. They’ve been adults for a long time.
So on with Panzer’s number 1 gaming beef.
I want to play my old bugger wargames on my PS3 damn it. Sure I know there are some shooters n stuff, but I’m talking about old bugger wargames. Board games of the 70s. I want to push virtual card board around on my 40inch HD TV screen. I want to sit with my PS3 controller in my lazy boy and enjoy my game in comfort. No, this relatively nice office chair really isn’t competition for a good lazy boy. And frankly I don’t need a high powered PC to play these games.

Slitherine has managed to take what is effectively a board game, and made it a PC product, a PSP and DS product too. This is what I am talking about when I saying ‘pushing virtual card board’. It’s a wargame, it requires thought, lots of thought. There’s no cheat codes, and besides, cheating is just saying you are too damn stupid to win otherwise.
So why isn’t it on a major Console damn it?
Kids often whine about price. I routinely spend thousands of dollars every year. Bills, food, clothing, shelter. If I want to buy a game, and it is what I really want, saying ‘man that sucks, they want 100 bucks for it’ isn’t a factor. As an adult I actually CAN say ‘it’s just 100 bucks eh’.
The publishers are always saying ‘we can’t afford to do console’. Well if that’s true, how are they managing to afford PC titles? Surely by now they have to have realized we wargamers are not kids with no real money to spend. Go ahead, release the game for double the price. I couldn‘t care less if kids go ‘holy shit, they want 100 bucks for that game’. I don’t care if kids don’t buy it. Kids are not buying the PC titles either.
War in the Pacific Admiral’s Edition, a recent release from Matrix Games is about 100 bucks after taxes. This is the second iteration of the game. That means they have already sold this game for a couple of years also at 100 bucks after taxes. And the fans of the game are just eating it up. Picture trying to sell that to the teen crowd
Something tells me there is more to it than just thinking it is too expensive, because it’s not like wargamers are unwilling to spend.
