It's not always about YOUR age group guys

I've been seeing a lot of anger after E3, and it all seems comical to me to be honest.

It's the anger that Nintendo has the nerve to market games to OTHER than the teen/under 25 crowd.

Holy crap get over your own self importance for Christ's sake will ya.

Perhaps you weren't aware of it, but Nintendo has NEVER actually been interested in competing with the Sony mob or the Microsoft mob. At least not in recent YEARS.

Here's something to consider. If the Nintendo DS or the Nintendo Wii has games that are appealing to the teen/under 25 crowd, maybe that's only because the pre teen and older crowd (people older than 25) also like those sorts of games too occasionally.

While the average parent might not be in a hurry to let a child play an obviously M grade game (even if the game isn't officially rated M), the older mob don't have to worry about the ratings at all.
So even though Nintendo is a well established producer of family games, it is not impossible to think they might make a few serious titles for us old blokes.

But even while us older guys are ok with the adult like content, we often have lost the obsession with it too.
Blood, gore, sex and violence, it's mostly "cool" to you younguns. You'll find it eventually gets old though eh.

So Nintendo goes to E3 this year, and horror of horrors, they are not dumping yet another round of teen friendly titles on the market. So what!

Get over the fact that Nintendo doesn't consider your demographic it's bread and butter.
Maybe you should have thought about it a bit when you bought that Nintendo DS or Nintendo Wii.

There's a reason they never released a console able to do all the extra things that the PS3 can. It's not as high on their list of priorities. You are mistaking Nintendo as being actually interested in the fight between Sony and Microsoft.
Sony and Microsoft are the ones interested in your demographic, which explains why they fight so viciously for your attention.

That a Nintendo DS or a Nintendo Wii can interest a teen/under 25 audience occasionally, is because occasionally a game is just simply able to interest anyone. It's not because it was aimed at YOU intentionally.

Yeah I can like Final Fantasy games and Zelda games and Mario Games too eh.
I can like the hard core games just as much as you.
But I tend to be just as happy with light entertainment that can also entertain a child, and I can also enjoy the serious "dull" and "boring" games you label as "sucking" that revolve around thinking as opposed to action.

My three personal favs Panzer Tactics, Age of Empires: Age of Kings and Steel Horizon I realize are never going to get raves from just about anyone on this forum.
So what.
You didn't actually think they were exclusively targeted at YOU did you?
Regardless of what you might like to think, they are not dull nor boring, nor do they suck.
Regardless of whether they didn't produce the sales figures of a major hit, it's not relevant.
Anyone releasing a title like Panzer Tactics, and then getting miffed they didn't sell millions needs a serious smack in the head.
Ask anyone in the wargaming community what they consider a successful selling wargame, and they will give you numbers you would consistently call a failure if measured against mainstream teen titles.
We already know they don't sell massive numbers.
The average adult is also likely a lot less impulsive a buyer, and also likely expects a game to be entertaining for longer than a week too.

I've got over 100 wargames for PC. They all cost top dollar, they are also all according to your average teen/under 25 opinion "dull", "boring" and suck smile.gif They are all also able to be played indefinitely. They don't have a completion point. No boss at the end to defeat. In short, I can buy a wargame today, and be able to be playing long after your current teen console of choice has been rendered old news.

Nintendo is a child and old person demographic. Say that till you can say it in your sleep.
The reason most of Nintendo's games don't interest you, is Nintendo is a child and old person demographic.
Keep saying that.
Nintendo doesn't make games with a focus in teens and the under 25 crowd.
Getting the message?
Each time Nintendo makes a game you like, it was good luck, but likely not entirely intentional.

You know why I don't own an X-box 360 of a PS3? It's because I'm not a teen or under 25 mainly.
None of the games on those two consoles appeals to me for the most part.
And I don't reeeeeeally need a blueray player that badly.
The PSP is a good machine, but it's just a mini teen under 25 hand held really.

I lament that the PS3 and it's great performance capacity doesn't have the games I'd like to play on it mostly.
But then I'm able to play them all on a PC. And how about that, I own a good PC, what a shock.
I've seen the latest in PS3 titles, and remarked to a vendor I thought the Civilization Revolution game looked good enough to almost want a PS3. But buying a 400 dollar machine for one game is a bit silly. I'd likely rather drop 400 bucks on my computer.

I haven't really spent any time checking out E3 myself. I knew it likely wouldn't have anything for me.
I really doubted there was going to be a significant news item connected with the Nintendo DS.
I don't own a Nintendo Wii so new games for it were not important to me.
And I am already fully aware of the upcoming games in PC wargaming.

There's a game in the works from Slitherine for the Nintendo DS.
It's a game that I am sure you would label "dull" and "boring" and I am sure you will say it "sucks".
You can't help yourself.
But me, I'm greatly looking forward to it.

If I could only pick two games for my Nintendo DS, and none others, I like would pick Panzer Tactics and Brain Age.
And that's partly because you can play them almost forever.
I'm fairly sure a teen would never pick either of those two.
I'm actually fairly sure most teens have ever even played them, likely haven't even heard of Panzer Tactics.

Haha, you do realise most of the people you're trying to reason with have no common sense, and no ability to read anything longer than a short paragraph before glazing over.

On a side note, I enjoyed Steel Horizon too.

Yeah, I don't really see how people get all pissed off over E3. I honestly don't care.

Nintendo is always lame at E3, I don't know why anyone would honestly be surprised by this.

Usually the non-E3 announcements are more exciting than anything else.

I thought that Nintendo at E3 was pretty bad and wondered why they didn't show off the other good games coming out, but since I knew they were coming out this year or next, I didn't care. Just because they didn't show the game you wanted to see or didn't announced some awesome game, doesn't mean it's the end of the world. It's not like you payed to watch E3 did you...? Unless you have one of those subscriptions/game channel things and you got it JUST for E3. Just wait for a non-E3 announcement...That way it's more fun rather than sitting at the edge of your seat knowing(even though there wasn't much of a surprise) that a surprise will come.

I don't think it was more age group, I think people are mad cause there were too many low-budget "casual" games.

Seconded, as with any fans of any console manufacturer or game dev we all look forward to new stuff to buy or get excited about. It's kind of hard lately for anyone of any age to get excited over what Nintendo has been pushing lately.

For a while I was getting steamed over all the schlockware games that Nintendo was producing, and to be clear, schlockware can hit all three age ranges, pre teen teen/under 25 and us old types.

I've seen lousy useless never should have been permitted kid games that would annoy a kid, and I have seen classic teen type games that no teen would consider acceptable and lastly, I have waited and waited on some titles that normally target us older gamers only to end up responding with "what's the deal with this garbage?"

Then I realized, why sweat it, it's not like I am paying for the schlockware, I've got an R4DS and I'm immune to bad purchases.

I can feel sad for the poor schmuck parents being suckered though I guess.

But it often seems that gamers have a desperate need to have a great game released every month. It's not possible for Nintendo to force game makers to pump out titles that fast, unless they're schlock.

If I could only get one truly defining moment game a year, I guess that's not as fun as a dozen. But it's not very realistic to expect the pace that it seems everyone wants.
I have well over 100 wargames, but, it took from 1995 for all of them to be eventually produced.
People on predominantly wargaming forums ask "what are you looking forward to" and my answer would be just one title. It's because I don't expect to be interested in more than one title for the entire spectrum of wargaming's settings.
After that title is released, my answer likely will alter to "nothing".

There comes a point in time, when a technology simply has no more tricks to offer.
There comes a time when Mario simply has no more interesting settings to give.
Eventually you either like replaying an old game, or you move on, maybe to something other than gaming even.
My most loved wargame, is actually a game that was released in 97. It's still as fun as ever. It's evolved some, been patched a great deal. But it's not a different game, it's just been tweaked a lot.

Sure would be fun to run a toned down version on my DS. But I am not expecting that to ever happen.

There's going to be some E3 shows where there's just nothing interesting to offer for a DS player.

My biggest complaint with Pony Luv is the name. God can't they at least try to avoid making us vomit?

It's a bad name, it reeks bad name. It might be appropriate if it was rated M and involved something illegal or at least gross :)
