Apparently my dad failed

At parenting because.. I don't believe in God.

I never knew until now that I had a godparent in case something happens or whatever, and I said "please don't tell me I have one" He said "uh yeah.. why wouldn't you?"

"Because I don't believe in any of that stuff."
"Please don't say that, you have to in case something happens to me or your mom."
"I just don't believe in it. I haven't for years."
"Well then I've clearly failed as a parent if my own son doesn't believe in God."

Frankly, this might upset the people who do believe in this stuff, I think it's crap. I don't see why we have to pay lots of money to learn the teachings of something that claims to be so crucial to life. It sounds like a scam to me. I don't believe in it, I have no reason to. There's no point in believing in something if at crucial times, nothing will happen when praying to said something.

Anyways, what do you guys think about the whole religion stuff?

My parents are from China so we don't give a crap about religion. There's already too much shit in the real world to worry about, we just don't have time for this religion nonsense.[/quote]

Technically, Atheism is the religion that states that The is no such thing as a god or goddess or whatever, really, it's not all that ironic.

I'm Buddhist, but many seem to misunderstand the fact that Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion, a way of life, perhaps. Buddha was originally an Indian Prince, and was a set role model to many Indians, causing the Religion to spread out through Asia, making it become popular. Of course, Buddhism is a popular "religion" among Atheists because of it's teachings and the philosophies. Reincarnation is something we Buddhists believe in, and it may be backed up or supported, with the many scientists studying reincarnation and investigating cases where people claim to remember their past lives, many of them shockingly accurate and true.

I apologize if I confuse some of you or don't make sense, it's 2 in the morning here and I'm very drowsy.....

=EDIT=
My mom has always taught me to respect other peoples religions, and try to find the good in them. She's also said that many are the same in some way, and that not all of them are bad.

Atheism is a religion. Atheism is the belief that there is no God or God-like figure and logic dictates everything.
While it is a religion, it's not a formal one and you'll never hear an atheist answer a question like "Are you religious in any way?" with a yes. This is because it's generally recognized that you're not religious unless you regularly worship, which atheists cannot do.

You know what else is funny and ironic? The fact that people believe and worship a God that has not once shown his/her existence in any form other than a collection of stories created by man.

It isn't a belief, it's the absence of belief.

They don't "believe" in anything. They believe God doesn't exist? They don't believe that god exists.

Atheists don't have one big book of rules all of them have to follow, either. Jews? Can't eat certain meat. Atheists? Can eat whatever they want, and can even choose not to eat things even if other atheists eat them.

I believe that you are mistaken.
I believe that there is no God.

I believe that they believe that there is no god or supernatural being watching over them.

^^^^^^ spoiler alert: it's the same sentence with different wording.

It isn't a religion, it is nothing like organised religion.

Who says a religion has to be organized?

Also, I think that atheism is the most organized of them all. It's the only one without corruption, the only one with no profit, and the only one that hasn't spawned wars based on silliness.

I don't collect stamps. Does that mean non-stamp collecting is my hobby? I don't believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Does that make non-pastafarianism my religion as well? Not all religions even have a god. Does that mean the followers of these religions are also followers of the atheist religion? Calling atheism a religion really makes as much sense to me as calling non-stamp collecting a hobby.

It makes as much sense as following a man-made illustration of the "perfect" being who lives on a cloud and has an army of large fairies to fight the forces of evil.

Very interesting discussion going on here.

That's where the Pentecostal denominations of Christianity comes in.

I have become very skeptical when it comes to religion lately. I used to believe blindly because my parents told me too, but I'm questioning everything I can to make sure I'm following truth and not lies. So far, (I'm in the Assemblies of God denomination by the way) I don't see a problem with the beliefs of the Church. However, I want to go up to countless Christians/Churches, and say,"You're doing it wrong!" The way people twist the Bible to say what they want it to say is disgusting. I'm ashamed of so many Christians who vehemently teach things I don't believe Jesus would teach. I don't believe anyone should condemn anyone for their beliefs, but it's when people say they believe something and live against what they believe that I feel it's despicable. I don't believe Jesus would go up to people and say, "You are going to Hell." The beliefs of the church should only be taught to those who want to hear it, not forced on those who don't.

Anyway, the Quote from _Chaz_. Sorry, I got a little sidetracked. With the Pentecostal denominations, there is the belief that when many believers are gathered to worship God, God comes down to be with them. Let's see, it says, "Where two or more are gathered in my name, there will I (God) be also." I've been to Church all of my life. Maybe it's some sort of psychological phenomenon, or maybe it is God. You can actually feel the air change in the middle of a worship service. This is one way people believe God shows his existence other than the collection of stories recorded by man. Another way is when physical and mental miracles happen.

The Christians I know who are doing it right, are the happiest people who live the most fulfilled and satisfying lives. The Christians who are doing it wrong live worse off than non-Christians in my opinion.

One thing that I still don't understand, is prayer. I used to pray all the time, and I didn't see answers. I didn't think they made any difference whether lots of people prayed or not. I don't think God is someone who would say, "Oh, sorry. Not enough people prayed for that person, so I'm not going to answer those prayers." So I'm going to further research this part of Christian beliefs.

I agree

i also dont believe in god so what by having critical thinking and reading the bible i was able to come to the conclusion that there's no god

Nihilism isn't a religion, it's a state of mind basically.

And yes, Eighteen is a chick, who also needs to lay off the drinks.

On-Topic: Not all Christians are Bible-humping Jesus freaks. I'm a Christian, and I haven't been to church in a few years. I don't pray to God everytime something bad happens. I've never read the Bible completely. Doesn't mean I'm not a Christian. I don't shove religion down non-believers' throats, and I don't shun them away from me either. The majority of my friends are Atheist, but they're awesome friends, and religion isn't going to break that up.

My mom is more religious than I am, and she doesn't freak out at my Atheist friends, nor tries converting them and whatnot. Most of the people that go to my church are like that. We're supposed to accept everyone, regardless of religion, race, etc...If they don't want to believe, that's their choice.

I just wish Atheists would stop attacking Christians as a whole like we're all trying to shove Christianity down your throats. It's all the extremist Christians that do nothing but talk about God and claim everything to be the work of the Devil that do that.

I don't know why one person thinks about another persons religious views so much.

Edit: This topic is EPIC.
