Fanboyism

I enjoy being a fanboy.
I'm a fanboy of Nintendo for it's great games but i find the online a downer.
I'm a fanboy of Microsoft (Not XBOX...) for their great OS's like Windows 7, but their upgrade disc prices are HEAPS...
I'm a fanboy of HP (Specifically Compaq Presario) for their laptops, though i have been hearing negative things.
What about you guys?

I'm not dumb enough to be a fanboy, I tend to look at everything objectively.

I'm a fanboy fangirl of everything FireGrey said except that I love my Xbox.
But yeah, still, nothing beats my DSiXL <3

EDIT: Almost forgot I'm female.

My Nintendo fanboyism is making me do something longer then ever.
Saving my money up!
I have $250, the most i've ever saved up to is $140

You can be a fanboy without being dumb you know. Yes, your advice about X products won't be objective, but if you really like it, heh. I've been a Nintendo fanboy for years, until now (too much crappy games on Big N consoles these days, and I've been disappointed with a lot of pretended good games)

:O HOW COULD YOU FORGET THAT :O

Welcome to the Interwebz, where things like sex, skin color, ethnicity, body odor, hair color, facial features and pretty much anything that as to do with what you look like, isn't important!

I made my own word for Nintendo Fanboys
Nintendoists
I wrote it into i dictionary so it's an official word :P

Saying "I'm a fanboy and I'm proud of it!" is just openly admitting that you're an idiot. Fanboys are nothing but tasteless gamers who just buy whatever crap comes out from company X. They're view of games being good or bad is gone; it's just if it's from company X or company Y.

Same here.
Everything has its pros and cons.

Lern2Definition.
We already went over what a fanboy actually is in another blog a while ago, and you were part of the conversation.
In truth, being a fanboy or girl just means you're a huge fan of whatever. Dunno when it ever got pointlessly turned into a derogatory word, but usually you need to use adjectives to make 'fanboy' actually a derogatory phrase. Y'know, obsessive fanboy, blind fanboy.

Anyways.
I'm a Tales fanboy. S'bout it.

I like to take an objective look at things as well, even though I don't always agree with myself. For example I really like to push the "brand is not everything" mindset (I even have a copy-paste on it) even though I don't fully agree. While I will say that you need to focus on the line and the hardware more than the brand, Acer has repeatedly proven that ALL their lines are low-end, while Lenovo doesn't have a bad line (their lowest-end line is about a medium for other companies, build-wise, not spec-wise). So while I'll tell people over and over to not base on the brand, what I'm really doing is trying to get people to think about more than the fucking name on the case...

No that's not true.
Fanboy's still find negatives, but they really like the system.
And being a fanboy doesn't mean you don't like the competitors, just not as much.
Anyway i don't buy whatever crap Nintendo makes, i love Mario but i only get certain Mario Games.
I stay the heck away from the Mario Sport games (such as Mario and Sonic and Mario Tennis...) but i love Mario Kart, Brawl and alot. And we are not tasteless...

So basically you're saying that you see the bad parts of the game but just refuse to accept them because the game has a certain name on it.

And yes, fanboys are tasteless. They may like a good game (like Mario Kart and Brawl) but they're just completely inadequate compared to other gamers.

There's a difference between a fanboy and an idiot. Being a fanboy just means your a big fan of whatever game/console/series. It doesn't mean you can't hate on the company for doing something bad or making a bad move. Now an idiot; an idiot would just accept whatever shit come's out that company's ass, whether it be good or bad, they'll defend it to their grave.

I'm not really a fanboy of anything, maybe nintendo handheld wise, but that's about it.

Exactly. Take Bladxdsl for example. He is a fucking idiot. He is a fanboy and a hater to the max. Now if we talk about apple and such, I call them Brandboys.

Being a fan of a company =/= being a fanboy. Fanboy is pretty widely used for someone who just gobbles the shit of one thing or another, no matter how good/bad it is. A fan is just an appreciator who still has taste.

Fans are good, fanboys are bad. Big difference.

Ken - good score or bad?
  • cearp @ cearp:
/ going to be making use of it any time soon?

Credit scores are weird but -- like you say, if you're not using it -- not using credit -- that's "bad" for your score
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Trying to improve it at 645
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Yet equafax is 678
  • cearp @ cearp:
You need to show you can use credit / borrow money and pay it back to get a good score.

Some people think that means paying interest -- that is NOT correct.
For example, some think you need to "carry a balance" on your credit cards, and that if you pay the whole bill at once, that's bad.
Not true at all. If you can, perfectly fine to pay your card statement in full.

If you want your score to go up, don't close any credit cards - keep them all open as closing an account reduces your average age of credit account, which is bad.

Also how the algorithms work, if you have multiple cards, have the final monthly balance reported on them be 0 (as in pay off early so nothing charged to you in your bill) on all but one card. So only let one card have a balance that's reported to the agencies.

And keep your credit utilization below 30% - so if you're allowed to access $10,000 of credit, don't go above $3,000 or that looks bad.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    I've been doing secured loans
    +1
  • cearp @ cearp:
645 isn't a bad score but sure can be better. If there are any bad marks on your history, I've seen some people successfully get these removed by asking
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
One friend is like 550 I'm like how lol
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Thing is we get so comfortable living we don't really have anything else we want to buy until something happens to said expensive item and then you gotta take another loan to replace that
  • cearp @ cearp:
I did a secure loan once to build credit - worked well, specifically did a trick where the loan balance was kept at like 3% for 5 years. As having a loan basically paid off is good for your credit score.
So took out the (small) loan, paid 95% off immediately lol, then paid $2 a month for a few years.
Not every bank / credit union let you do that, and even the ones that do might think your behavior is weird lol :D
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Over time secured loans can get you free shit if you're smart about payments the money essentially goes back to you
  • cearp @ cearp:
Paid like $100-150 or so in interest in total over those 5 years in return for a good bump of my credit score, worth it for me.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Say I want a $600 console I can save $100 per month while paying myself back within 6 months
  • cearp @ cearp:
Once your credit score is good enough you'll get approved for "good" credit cards, then get benefits with them :) I don't make the most of my benefits, some people truly min/max the whole thing and get enough points for free flights + hotel etc... Takes time though, I'm not that serious about it.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
At a business perspective they can max at 20k within a month
  • cearp @ cearp:
Once you get to about 750 you're fine -- I don't believe you get a better rate for car loans / mortgages if you have a score of 820 vs 750.
  • cearp @ cearp:
Oh yeah if you have a business, or even just travel a lot for work, that will get you a ton of points lol
As many companies get you to book your own travel then reimburse you
  • cearp @ cearp:
Anyway - speaking of work, I need to get back to work :D Have a good day Ken + all other users
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'd hate to have that much stress
