i need a new freakin phone -_-

okay, i am still using my old Motorola V360.
this thing is old and i really think it is time to replace it.
one thing is that the battery is almost dead. usually, it could last up to 7 days without charging and still have all 3 bars. now it only lasts 3 days and it would have 1 or 2 bars.
second thing that pisses me off is sometimes it receives a text message yet it doesn't appear in the inbox. i think it is some sort of glitch, but i would have to send a text message to the person [since it happens when i text a single person] saying i didn't get that since my phone is being gay .

now i am on my search for a new phone. first i can't really be on a plan. so that must mean the phone has to be unlocked or is $215 without a plan/prepaid. the phones at Fido aren't of much interest to me. dad said i gotta stick with Fido, so i am on my search for an unlocked phone. not only that, but i need sites, but anyway, i think that might be against the rules...? oh well, for now, lets not discuss sites.

can anyone recommend me a phone, that is $215 max w/o tax. so it can be $214.99. the main concern i have is it having a QWERTY keyboard. nothing else really. i've been thinking about the LG Eve since i saw it for $200 at this unlocked phone site. it's touchscreen and has a QWERTY keyboard and has the Android OS which allows me to get apps for it . so i was like, woah, that's great. but then i read some reviews and people said oh, this phone drops calls, the touchscreen isn't responsive. so now i am getting second thoughts and might not want to buy this phone anymore -_-. anyone have it and give me their first hand experience? i am a bit worried if this phone breaks down or has some sort of problem since it is an unlocked phone site so anything can happen.

anyway, suggestions will be taken in :D. even if they don't have a QWERTY keyboard. i've tried the LG Neon (KS360) and LG Xenon (GR500). i've also put my thought of getting the LG Cookie (KP500) or the Samsung Corby Pro Plus. the only thing is, for the Corby, i will have to get it @ Rogers then unlock it. and i am not so sure if it can be unlocked or is worth it.

so yeeahh, long blog. long story short, I want a new phone (GSM) that is $215 max without tax. Preferred to have a QWERTY keyboard, but not necessary.

orly ifish? PM me link/source/site :D

HTC phones are so nice. but they are too expensive for my budget -_-. maybe if i could persuade my parents to chip in (they did invest in a phone for $200. it was for myself but was returned a few weeks later since it had problems charging + turning on). i would ask them to help me buy a phone, but maybe later if i can find other options.

[quote name='ifish' post='3007567' date='Jul 27 2010, 02:16 AM']You can get an unlocked iPhone 4 for 200$ :3

Comes out this Friday <3[/quote]
Yeah, unlocked with a 3 year contract. :hateit:

I would recommend the Nexus One (850/1900 band for you), but they stopped selling them. Not many good Android phones in Canada.

WTF mayn. i can't be on a contract xD.
not only that, i have to be on a plan, so that phone is a no go.

Nexus One... eh, that's a pricey phone xD. i was thinking about Nokia's Express Music Phones, has anyone tried those?

EDIT: so i had a talk with a site that sold unlocked phones. what a troublesome one it was... i'm john and the custom support guy is Dan.
john: hi dan.

Dan: Thank you for choosing "that site" !

Dan: Hi, how are you doing today?

john: im good.

john: i am curious about your reliability,.

john: for your site.

Dan: Okay...

john: can i trust your site?

Dan: Our Website is verified by the VISA.

john: the CNet Certified Store is fake though.

john: and i can't be sure if your are certified by paypal either.

john: i clicked on it and it just explained what paypal is.

Dan: Paypal is our payment gateway and we are certfied.

Dan: certified*

john: proof?

Dan: I am sorry.. but are you looking to place an Order.

Dan: It is already listed in the Website you can see that our site is Verified by the VISA.

john: where does it say tit is certified by Visa?

john: on the left side,

john: it says it is CNet certified. which is clearly fake since when you click on it, "That site" does not show up.

john: eBay feedback score , isn't something i care about since it could be clearly fake.

john: by creating accounts repeatedly.

john: the paypal box just shows what paypal is.

Dan: You can check at the Bottom right hand corner SHOPPING.COM

john: and GeoTrust just means your site is secured but who knows if it is really secured through buying.

john: the latest review on that site says this.

john: I have not received the product. I have had no response to my follow up using their web site contact information. My online order status has remained unchanged for two weeks now.

Dan: Can you help me with your Order Number.

john: that doesn't make any sense.

john: how can i help you?

john: i am not the associate
with pure mobile.

john: it seems like your are the one who is troubled.

john: not knowing what to say since clearly, you can't explain anything i''ve asked.

Dan: "" I have not received the product. I have had no response to my follow up using their web site contact information. My online order status has remained unchanged for two weeks now. ""

Dan: do you have a Order with us?

john: that was a review.

john: i read at shopping.com

Dan: Ok...

Dan: We have so many customer's who place there Order, so there are some issues but not compared to the Support that we provide.

Dan: If you are willing to place an Order with "that site" , you can go ahead and place and if not you are under no obligation at all.

john: okay.

john: where are you located?

john: not the store , but where are you?

Dan: Montreal, Canada.

Dan: We do not have any Physical Retail Store.

john: i've been told you are located in New York.

Dan: The corporate address is in New York, as we have our Ware House over there.

Dan: You asked me where we are located? The customer Service department is based in canada.

john: okay, bye.

john: looks like i won't be buying from such a confusing customer support.

Dan: Thank you for choosing "that site" !
Take Care & Have a Great Day !

Dan: Bye
that's the whole convo. spoilered.

[quote name='ifish' post='3009421' date='Jul 27 2010, 09:34 PM']Why is it called "That Site"?

And montreal!?? oh noes[/quote]
cause i wasn't sure if the discussion of unlocked phone sites was allowed. i don't want anyone get warned, but since the iPhone 4 already came up, the site is called PureMobile. i don't trust it after having that chat .__.

i want to buy a new phone, it is so troublesome x_x.
any sites that are from Canada and are trusted?

@ifish - well... tell me what a store than? Rogers, Fido, WIND Mobile, Telus, Virgin Mobile, Bell etc. all of those are stores but they have phones that are either: 1. not GSM 2. are on a plan 3. above budget 4. aren't the type of phones i am looking for

@Ichigo - woah thanks ^_^. you just gave me another store that i know is reliable ! thanks, and i will think about that phone. thought it does seem bulky... since your brother has it, how heavy does it compare to a DS Lite?

My ds lite has been broken for half a year so I can't really compare them but the ds lite weighs 7.7oz and the phones weighs 4oz so its about half the weight.

oh kk thanks.
even if it broken, i doubt the broken can affect the difference in weight this much.

i noticed that the phone you recommended was $220.
i found the HTC Dream off of eBay for $210 :O (with shipping)

is it still worth getting [the HTC Dream]?

Well I don't know anybody that would keep broken device for 6 month but your right, what do you mean $220 on my browser I see it as $170 with free shipping, and the G1 or Dream could be great for that price if you plan on rooting it and installing custom roms which is what I'm going to do once my dads contract ends and he gets a new phone.

Don't get a (xe)neon, they are both awful. My sister had a xenon and hated it. And a neon is just a downgrade of the xenon.

@IchigoSJ - oh sorry, my bad. i was looking at the Nokie 5530. mind helping me out with this "rooting" and custom ROMs. [what does it stand for anyway]. and maybe a short list of pros and cons.

@supersonic - oo thanks for the advice. my friend has the Xenon, and by just looked at it, it didn't look that great. i had a Neon before, and i don't want to go through with that phone again -_-.

HTC seems like a nice brand. for some reason, the design of the Phone OS [both Android and Windows Mobile] have just attracted my pure attention. HTC Dream, Fuze and Touch Diamond2. which one...? uses are probably just daily calling, texting, web browsing [through wifi]. i would like to have a YouTube player as well.

EDIT: okay okay... which one would probably pose of more value. a full QWERTY keyboard + Windows Mobile 6.1 or Windows Mobile 6.5? i was looking at the Dream, which is Android 1.5/1.6 + QWERTY keyboard. the Fuze has Windows Mobile 6.1 + QWERTY Keyboard. the Touch Diamond2 has Windows Mobile 6.1 and can be upgraded to 6.5.

can someone explain the differences between 6.1 and 6.5. not only that, but which would you recommend to get? they are all both in the same price range ($200 -> $220)
.

^
they got a Google Voice app for the Android and BB. but you have to use the site for everything else such as Windows based phones. i am guessing you are telling me to go with some Android OS phone?

I hear the iPhone is always a good choice. If you want a cheaper ne, maybe an LG Shine. They are pretty good mods, and references can be found wherever.

............. He can't afford the iPhone and doesn't want a contract or did you not read?

I'd personally go with the HTC Dream out of those choices. Then again I have no knowledge of Windows Mobile phones at all.
