Bye bye 3DS

Vita fans might be happy to know my Vita has replaced my 3DS as the console I carry around with me. Ran out of games to play on my 3DS ages ago, only carried it around for Streetpass. I bought Spyro and Abe's Oddysee from PSN after failing to get Adrenaline working and am quite enjoying playing them on my lunch break :-) Meanwhile my poor 3DS now lives in the odds and ends drawer.

Whatever suits you is fine.

I do agree with the mentality of just playing a game on whatever system it happens to be on, as opposed to just sticking to one console, though I admit, I have a preference to smaller screens; I don't like it when others look at what I'm playing. Kind of also the reason I haven't touched my Steam library that much yet.

...same here, saying goodbye to my 3ds in a few days.....AND I STILL HAVE A F###TON OF GAMES TO PLAY, pokemon sun, MH4U, The new radiant historia and SMT games.......goddamnit.

Some impressions of the Vita:

It's a bit uncomfortable to hold because of the flat profile - holding any of the shoulder buttons while trying to use the analogue stick is really awkward. But that's mostly the same with the 3DS, just need to find a controller grip for it.

Having the second analogue stick below the buttons doesn't feel right, but that's probably just because I have gotten accustomed to the Wii U pro controller.

I liked having the main screen be above the controls on the 3DS, and the slight angle - it feels like my neck gets a bit cramped looking down at the Vita screen (I'm not looking forward to when I find I really need a Switch, wish they could have kept the clamshell design)

The Vita seems to be a bit lighter than the 3DS which is good, and the all-in-one construction (no hinges etc) makes it easy to use while walking, even with one hand, while the 3DS is a bit awkward used this way.

It's annoying that I have to go into Settings to reconnect the internet if I ever restart it, it never connects automatically (or maybe I am just impatient, and it will do it itself if given time)

Having to hold down the power switch for several seconds to turn it on is kind of annoying. I understand why (so you can turn on/off sleep mode by pressing it quickly). But they could have had a slide Sleep switch like the 2DS has, with a separate power button.

The battery seems to have really good staying power. I think I've only charged it once in the last two days and not turned it off, and it shows as fully charged.

I like that it came with a USB charging cable instead of a plug only cable. Often I find myself with limited power points but vast arrays of devices I can plug USB cables into for power.

I started playing Danganronpa the other day - I'm not sure if it is the cartoon visuals of that game, but the screen seems to be brighter and more colourful than the 3DS. I guess because it doesn't need to do the extra work of providing for 3D.

The Vita seems to have a lot of games that I know I won't like - turn based JRPGs or FPSs. But I'm looking forward to trying other new sorts of games I haven't really had the chance to play before, since I only really played Nintendo games. For example I really liked the Zero Escape series and that's a genre that isn't too common on Nintendo, but Vita probably has plenty of them (or at least I am hoping so)

ewww 2D handheld Sub-Race ... then again its nintendos fault using underwelming specs for the "New" 3DS and that silly nub instead of a second thumbstick..Then again I'd convert to Vita if they used normal micro SD instead of that vita card crap ... How long am i gonna have to wait for the Perfect 3D/Handheld Device.... even that GPDXD is outdated and lacking a second bottom screen for DS games

wait... If so, I'd have to find a Vita 1000 "the best screen and comfort" and even then it can't play PS1 games yet ;-; ... that maybe will happen never or another year ..maybe if i space out for 10 years working, then go back to handhelds we will finaly have PS2 on handhelds devices with Xbox for halo hahaha, thats my wish

Specs is hardly a reason for buying a system, THE GAME is the reason why anyone should buy a system. I do admit some things about the systems are bad, i bought a 3ds cause i was suckered into the 3d idea, but that was the last thing on my mind. The main reason why cause it succeeds NDS which has such fun and great games. Except the games i was expecting wasn't being made. (lack of capcom games and more) There are more other games i didn't expect which i do like so is fairly balanced. The augmented reality and 3d stuff didn't appeal to me, mostly cause it was hard to use visually (this is only a opinion statement as others can have better experience.) I just find it hard to always use 3d, and new 3ds didn't seem to improve it that much, maybe is just my eyes but oh well. I still like 3ds for the games it offers.

Vita is no doubt better for the hardware it has, but is has very little in terms of unique things to offer. compared to psp is a big leap, but compared to nintendo it wasn't much, a touch screen, motion controls, augmented reality, well it does have rear touch pad. Still the games it has was mostly some remasters, ps3/ps4 ports or more... ports. Only very little exclusives exist that interested me, and the one game i wanted phantasy star online 2 never made is way to me. I don't think is bad system, it just lack what i wanted. Am i disappointed to own it? No, i got good games like ys memories of cescita, Tales of heart R, Uncharted and some others. Most of the features that sony bragged about since e3 go unused, near, gone, skype, youtube, gone, 3g wifi by at&t, who uses it now, remote play, might be used but not as often.

Is always been a matter of what the stuff offers me, is always been games, does it offer me games i want, sure. That why i have it. :)

quantumcat hold down the PS button, can turn on wifi from there. Also i suggest the nyko psvita grip, adds an extra battery.

most-wanted Psvita can play (most) PS1 games now with adrenaline 3.0 onwards And Pstv can use a usb drive/stick as storage.

sonic angel... Its your eyes and i feel sorry for you xD , my sister had crosseyes from birth and got it "fixed"she can't see in 3d.. I also laugh at her ahahha
sliver.... Having lots of consoles laying around can be a burden, also adds to the cost

Zero Escape's platform of origin is Nintendo DS and the most recent two games in the series are on 3DS as well as Vita.

Well even though im a Nintendo fanboy, its great that your playing on a diverse selection of systems, resulting in a diverse gaming experience so I say that the change is sometimes a good thing ;)

@clownb yeah that's how I found them (was working my way through the Metacritic list of best 3DS games). But I'm thinking Vita will have more of the same genre, it would be an uncommon genre to find on Nintendo consoles. So looking forward to discovering new games :-)

I'm going to fanboy here. I was burnt by Sony with their PSP. On launch day I was excited and bought the system with a dungeon game got it home to find out it had like fifteen dead pixels..wth. So back in the box and returned. Didn't bother trying another with alot of reports of bad screens on launch day so I waited...not knowing my next PSP purchase would be horrible as well. Enter the 3000 series..horrible scan lines...could not play the thing without getting a headache...the PSP hacks were cool, but the screen ended it for me. Now I own a PSP go that sits new in the box as a collector's thing. Vita came out, and I wasn't even interested. Sure the Oled screen was nice, but..being burned...lingered. So I'm happy still playing out my DS collection and even my GBA stuff atm.

I have a collection of 3DS consoles, and enjoy playing them. Not sure if you think I missed that system?
(dimmidice). BTW, have always been a portable gaming fan of late. Its hard to sit down at the TV and play on a console. My most recent console is a 360, and only bought one because of Skyrim and Halo. My last Playstation was a PS2, and its packed away. Out and ready to use are my Dreamcast, NES, SNES, original XBOX, and GameCube with its Gameboy adapter.

If you're a fan of handheld gaming you should get a vita. you can catch up on the PSP games that you missed out on on better hardware :)
