2001 vs 2020

I just realized that both 2001 and 2020 see the launch of two BIG console releases, along with being almost just 20 years later. So let's see what games came out in both years!

2001:
  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Devil May Cry
  • Super Smash Bros Melee
  • Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil
  • Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
  • Ico
  • Silent Hill 2
  • Serious Sam
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Grand Theft Auto 3
  • Max Payne
  • Sonic Adventure 2
  • Conker's Bad Fur Day
  • Paper Mario
  • Shenmue 2
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
  • SHREK
  • Twisted Metal Black
  • Dead or Alive 3
  • Klonoa: Empire of Dreams
  • Pikmin
  • Super Monkey Ball
  • Megaman X6
  • Luigi's Mansion
2020:
  • Avengers
  • DOOM Eternal
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
  • Cyberpunk 2077

2001 had all those games? That was awesome.

I for some reason always thought 2004 was one of the best years for gaming in the early 2000's. I don't remember why, it just stuck with me "2004."

@Silent_Gunner I'm not just doing launch games.

@Essometer Arbitrary? I just went off games that were on my mind, along with some popular picks.

@Scott_pilgrim In both years?

@VinsCool The fact that I didn't even recognize that many of those games released this year is a problem. No matter what, I doubt anyone would argue that 2020 is better for the industry than 2001.

I still left out many games for 2001. Many, MANY games. Even considering more niche games, something tells me Klonoa 2 would leave far more of an impact on anybody than Sackboy.

I was born in 2001, great year for gaming.
I prefer 2004 though, most of the PC games from my childhood were from 2004-early 2005 (I got my first PC in 2007).

And as a console I had a Super Nintendo, then PS1 for years. I was born in the PS2 era, and went through the PS3 era with a SNES and PS1, and boy am I glad that happened, my taste in games would've been a lot different if my family was better off back then.

When I read the title, I thought this was gonna be comparing 9/11 to events in 2020 or something like that
Also, why isn't The Origami King on the 2020 list?

@banjo2 The fact that Origami King didn't come to mind is inherently a problem. No matter what, something happened to make me forget the release date. It doesn't even necessarily mean anything about the game itself, but this year in gaming is doing something wrong.

@RichardTheKing Persona 5 Royal originally released in 2019.

H
@RichardTheKing I don't care. It released in 2019 first, so it released in 2019. The console is region-free anyway.

@HylianBran There's also how The Game Awards has it up for this year's "Best RPG" selection.
So Persona 5 Royal is a 2020 game, and one of the best released this year.

@ChicoPancho Age of Calamity...eh. Nah. Runs like :shit: despite supposedly being built specifically for the Switch, and the universe just isn't at all interesting; the first Hyrule Warriors game was far more engaging than this will ever be. Or, if you want a good "Dynasty Warriors" Switch game, there's Fire Emblem Warriors. If you want a good "Legend of Zelda" game, there's Link's Awakening - they have unfortunately not released any other Legend of Zelda games for this console yet, when the Wii U got two remasters of fantastic games.

@RichardTheKing I don't care about the fucking Game Awards. The game released in 2019. I would've included it if it was released in 2020. Also, Wind Waker is a unfinished, shallow, and boring game.

I cant justify $1k+ on a nice ass phone. I can spend that on a 75" tv screen. Why a 6" screen device cost me the same? lol

Nah a phones going to always be more powerful than a TV if the TVs $2grand maybe but why when I can put a smaller device in my pocket that does basically everything a TV already does

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I can justify a decent $800 smartphone that'll last 3 years when I could get a 65" TV for $400 and buy a decent micro computer for $100 more
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Tbf there are decent $400 smartphones in today's market that make top end spec phones unjust it's just what you want
