The communication protocol between the 3DS system and the 3DS gamecard has changed almost completely in comparison with the DS and DSi gamecard communication protocol.
yes it can be, it is not necessary as hardware is same as the red gateway
the hardware is almost the same and only the exploit is important
if team supercard could port and reverse engineer the exploit from gateway they could create their own
the loader is 1 mb big and i dont think it is full of code only, 1 mb fake dump for security i think
Similar, yes, but not the same.
For starters, the cartridge for the gateway has a 3DS cartridge notch in the upper corner that tells the system its a 3DS cartridge.
How can a firmware update morph the physical characteristics of the cartridge?

You might want to pause and think what you just said. Or rephrase. Just sayin'why doesn't people think before posting? it's obvious that a ds flash cart will NOT work on a 3ds
My answers to the question:
- is it possible to make the dstwo run 3ds roms? : maybe, the hardware on the cards is not that diferent however there is a big possibility that it lacks the required hardware specifications, but i learned that impossible is a word that should be used with caution and impossibility relates to our current level of knowledge.
- will it be done? : I don't think so, because of one simple aspect, money if you create a new card and sell it for 40 bucks you will generate money. Upgrading the dstwo would be free i suppose..
Well that was my point about Supercard as a team though and that is that when supcard SD came out there was no DS and then they made it work for DS and gifted all of us that bought it for GBA a pretty great DS slot 2 card.....so would they do that again...maybe....One problem I see though is that the gateway has eeprom save storage on it so that the games actually save and load from that eeprom to mimic a real cartridge as closely as possible. When you do a home/close it writes that eeprom to the 3DS SD card and when you switch games it flushes that eeprom and then loads the data back from the .sav file.....there is no such save eeprom in the DS2 as all save game handling is done directly to and from the sd card....so that would be a problem right there....again may eventually get worked around but likely not until they get to runnign unsigned code
Not sure if rhetorical, but just in case: yeah, we were. Some of the earliest ways to load a DS ROM was to have a dud stand-in card in the DS cart, but the ROM would boot from a GBA flashcart. Were we able to play DS roms from GBA flashcarts? I'm not saying it will happen with the DStwo, but it's not impossible.
