We're all doing it for fun in our free time, there's no intention of monetary earnings, that's our principle. ;)

Hi! Sorry for dragging this on, but I happen to be building an app for supporting work like yours, and I'd like to know your opinion. Say someone created a bounty for translating this game, and those intereseted contributed money to it. Not as a donation to you specifically, but as an incentive for your (or others) to work on this project. Would you claim the bounty once you were done?

Huge thanks for your work by the way. Can't wait to play the full translation!

This seems like it'd be a problem with the original producers. I mean what can they say about fans translating their game. What does that really do to them? But fans profiting by translating their game? That seems to get into sketchy legal areas. There's a reason you see online aliases on fan translations, not "Translated by Bob Johnson, 456 Rainbow Road, Centerville, OH"

That's a very fair point, and my main worry too. It's clear that for the safety and peace of mind of the translators their identities should be kept hidden, which would be the case anyways, since its personal information and must be protected. I believe it wouldn't be an issue from the very beginning, but would definitely become one if the project gains any traction. It's definitely a legally gray area as you say, but I believe I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Worst case, the app would have to be stricter about what is allowed and what not.

Hi! So that means then with full story translation in english?
Exactly. For now (v0.4) all story text is still japanese. :grog:

Would you claim the bounty once you were done?
Most likely not. I'd never take money for fixing someones computer either.
I'm attacted to translating a game someone requested - or basically doing anything others request - if the request is well made, not just "plz do it, thx" AND if it somehow attracts me. For example this game got my interest because I really enjoyed playing Joker 2 back then and a lot of people said they would be super happy to have just anything translated like menus etc. because there was never anything released even though multiple attemps were made.

I'm pretty much exactly the same way. Heck, I do a couple different podcasts, with Dragon Quest Slime Time being the primary one I started and record often. One thing I say in every episode is that we don't have a Patreon because we just love DQ and that's why we do it. Podcasting takes time and little else, and I don't expect a penny for that. We encourage those who wish to spend money to donate to running the site we all met on. (The Dragon's Den at www.woodus.com/den)

It's great there are generous fans out there, but I'm good. [emoji106]

Thanks for your feedback! Even though I kinda ended up hijacking the thread. Having no english DQ monsters games to play was actually one of the main reasons I thought of this idea. I'm glad there's people like you two out there.

There is a great guide on GameFaqs that covers the story and most of the side quest that I use to navigate what to do next when I get stuck, also does anyone have the .cia for update v1.1 I can't find it anywhere online. I know its only for online play but there are some monsters you can only get through daily keys obtained online, and I have a US 3DS so I can't update the game and dump the .cia myself any help in finding it would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon, welcome to GBAtemp :grog:

I would appreciate if you could read the rules before posting, specifically, this part:

The Rules said:
"Warez" - ROMs, WADs, ISOs & CIAs

"Warez" is an internet term used to describe copyrighted software, game, film, music and data piracy.
  • We DO NOT HOST or PROVIDE ROMs/WADs/ISOs/CIAs; or link to websites that do contain ROMs/WADs/ISOs/CIAs.
  • We do not allow or condone sharing of title keys or any other form of copyrighted material or content.
  • Members may NOT ASK and MAY NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION or LINKS for and to places that provide ROM, WAD, ISO and CIA files in absolutely any way on our forum including PM (private message).
  • We do not condone piracy in any way.
  • Please go elsewhere if you only wish to download or share illegal files. The GBAtemp Forums are for discussion ONLY.
These rules also apply to other "warez" too, not just ROM, WAD, ISO & CIA files; this includes (but is NOT limited to) - licensed and copyrighted software, code, movies, music, video games, magazines, comics, e-books, television shows, illegal torrents, etc. These rules also account for "keygens" and "cracks" including how to obtain, apply or install them.

Those are the most frequently broken rules, and are the most important. Failure to comply with these rules may result in an instant ban on your forum account. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse!

This is also a reminder for everyone else who read this thread :)

Thank you.

Hello,
I am new to this forum but i am very interrested in this project. I myselfe would love to contribute to this project (bc I absolutly love the DQM series!) but sadly I am no tech guy :(. I even have problems installing the translation patches. If anyone could help me out this would mean much to me.
Btw: I fail at the part with the TranslationHackingTool bc I cannot make a folder or file with the D command for some odd reason.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Hello,
I am new here and first of all thank you for your services to the DQ fandom. I myselfe am a really big DQM fan but I am having problems installing the patch. For some odd reason I fail when trying to use the D command in the TranslationHackingTool ( I cannot create a _dist_v1.0_EN folder. You probably know by now that I am not a tech guy but I really want to play this game. Could anybody help me out somehow ?

Can you give more information about that particular problem? What error message does Translation Toolkit show you? Can you copy & paste it in here?

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
