What's so great about $60 2DS units? I mean that's about the going rate for a regular (not translucent, not fancy decorated, no included games, no extra geegaws) one on eBay.

People have said the 2ds "sucks monkey balls" anyway and having had one I agree; for only a little bit more you can get a much superior o3ds. I don't understand what the point of the 2ds was: it's ugly and huge, yet they didn't put a nice big screen in the huge case.

Except aren't Euros worth more than USD? $60 was in the US, it might be €50 or something over there. Not TOO bad pricing anyways.

I got my 3DS back repaired. They replaced the PCB. They also damaged the bottom screen so I immediately put it back in the box and sent it back. If you don't have any hacking stuff on your sd card (or don't include it) I don't think N can really tell what happened with nothing but a black screen to go by. I mentioned I had lent it to a little kid who I think was saying he shut it off when it started updating. They seemed to think that was a decent story to explain it.

I'd love to try and send my 3DS in for repair, but I'm not under warranty so it'll probably cost over $60. I'd rather give the 2DS a try instead of paying anything more than that, I remember trying it at a local Nintendo event and liking what it did, so I think this could be a cool new opportunity.

When you (soft!) bricked your 3DS you simply send it back to Nintendo, you have a 2 year warranty, at least in Europe that is.

I've had mine since year one, so I didn't have a chance to repair it for free. The costs I'd have to pay would be greater than $60, so in my case these 2DSes would be cheaper.

However, this is still a good option for anyone else who is still under warranty! I'll update the OP to include information about that.

My 3DS came in the mail today! It was on 8.1.0-19U! REJOICE!!!!!

I'll update the OP with the new results. :D
My brother and his friend ordered two of these and shipped em to me to be CFW'd.

One was a red 2DS which came with 6.0.
The other was blue and came with 9.4.

Upgraded the red and downgraded the blue without much issue :)

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
