Is it known if there is any telemetry in place? If I remember correctly the outdated "Tinfoil Mod" removed it. I'm kinda paranoid about that and am asking myself what data Tinfoil might collect and send to the tinfoil-domains like keys, certificates, installed software and so on?
Lots of telemetry, doesn't ask permission, doesn't follow GDPR laws afaik, but nobody's ever seriously accused it of stealing certificates.

It does collect collect anonymized data. You can disable this by disagreeing to the Terms of Service in the options, however this will also disable certain cloud features such as icon / metadata / cheats downloads / updates.

Alternatively, you can just block tinfoil.media and tinfoil.io in your dns.mitm module.

@blawar

I ran into a weird issue on my friend Switch with SXOS 3.1- EMUNAND 11.0.0. Some downloaded games via Tinfoil "shops" can't launch. Same games in NSP, XCI format, installed and launch just fine.

On another Switch using Atmosphere and the spoofed SXOS, there is no issue with those same games downloaded from Tinfoil "shops".

Any suggestion to troubleshooting this issue?

@blawar There is an option of "Parental mode" in Tinfoil v13.0 R7

Tinfoil 13.0 release note mentions "

On clicking it, it shows the below error :

Don't love it. Don't even use it anymore. Found it too annoying to deal with compared to dbi or tinwoo. So idk why you spouting this.
Where exactly is the difference between Awoo Installer and TinWoo? TinWoo looks like a straight copy of Awoo Installer just with a different background.

Tinwoo is a fork of awoo-installer. Its pretty much a more updated awoo that has support for installation from an external hdd/thumbdrive and supports "the new storage format" that some newer games use. Im not sure if awwoo has hdd installation or supports the new storage format since I jumped ship from it.

If any1 had issue installing or launching the latest Tinfoil or issues with launching games, make sure you have latest hekate sigpatch and add these lines into ATMOS boot config in your hekate_ipl.ini

Code:
kip1patch=nosigchk
atmosphere=1

how do I use this correctly in the new hekate_ipi.ini?
like this?

Code:
[config]
updater2p=1
{------ Atmosphere ------}
[Atmosphere FSS0 EmuMMC]
fss0=atmosphere/package3
kip1=atmosphere/kips/*
emummcforce=1
icon=bootloader/res/emu_boot.bmp
kip1patch=nosigchk
atmosphere=1
{}
[Atmosphere FSS0 SYS]
fss0=atmosphere/package3
kip1=atmosphere/kips/*
emummc_force_disable=1
icon=bootloader/res/sys_cfw_boot.bmp
kip1patch=nosigchk
atmosphere=1

Only just found out about the hate messages! I recently updated Hekate to v5.6.5. on an unrelated subject in wondering if it's caused an issue??

I also updated Atmosphere (but that wasn't affected).

Anyway I was in tinfoil which installed fine and I didn't get the red message of Doom and gloom I got on the last version.

There's a navigation panel on the left. In the section labelled payloads you can see (and launch Hekate). It also sees atmosphere and lockpickrcm but not tegra. So I launched Hekate.

Anyway later that day I found my Hekate was version 5.6.2 which was the really odd. As I'd updated from 5.5.7.

I don't know 100% it was Hekate or tinfoil that changed it. I'd also launched tegra explorer the day previous as I bought a new joypad. Basically there's a script tegra can run called syncfix. It synchronises your Bluetooth and WiFi settings from the sysnand to the emmunand.

But all I did from both these apps was reboot into a payload. It shouldn't be overwriting my setup.

I've fixed the issue, but I'm baffled by this.

Currently I've got all my payloads in the bootloader/payload folder. And now I'm only trusting atmosphere (payload launcher) and hekate to launch them. Anything else I'll reboot to RCM.

If anyone can shed any light on this let me know.

Also do any of the other installer allow you to add the shops? I'll get another installer anyway... But if it's got this feature I might abandon ship fully.

So you'd just add tinfoil.io and tinfoil.media to emmc.txt files?

    A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

    anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

    if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

    Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    @BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
    You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
    still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

    i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

    It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

    @rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
