I've got an idea for a feature for CIAngel, however I don't know if this is possible:

Currently, submitting title keys requires a user to manually dump his keys with another tool, copy it from his SD to his computer, and then upload it to a page, which he might not even know about when he finds CIAngel.

Maybe it would be possible to add a feature to CIAngel so that it automatically uploads all the title keys present on the console, maybe every time it also checks for a new wings.json? That would collect all the title keys from all the people who use this tool without them having to do any extra work.

it's possible, i would rather a separate tool does this though, not in CIAngel. it would be a stripped down version of decrypt9 initially, just the title key dumping, then add some online to upload to the website.
for someone who wants it, it wouldn't be too much work :)

That would be useful. I want to buy ZTD as soon as it releases here (9am EST 27/6) and would like to be able to easily & quickly upload the titlekey without sacrificing too much playing time.

Well, I mean, anyone can just grab the data and rehost it I guess, if they're willing to take on that legal grey area I mentioned before. I'd recommend servers outside the US though, probably somewhere a lot more lax on copyright laws, and with a host known for not instantly dropping a site due to a DMCA request. Just saying.

I was meaning something a bit more like CloudFlare crossed with BTSync, where the DNS resolves to multiples IPs all ad hoc. I think Tor might have something like this but I'm not 100% sure.

Based on looking at the site's look and rapid iteration, I'm willing to bet it's a basic lamp server and we could probably do db mirroring, but with everyone constantly downloading the file, we have more than enough near-realtime backups.

I use a 1MB buffer, so each time you see the % update is 1MB downloaded. The code is literally open HTTP stream, then read 1MB, write to file (Or CIA buffer if installing), repeat. There's nothing really I can do to speed it up, it entirely depends on the speed of the 3DS's internet connection.

Ah, alright. I see, thanks for clearing that up.

Would there be a way to speed up CIAngel's download speed? I would think no considering it's right from Nintendo's servers.
I ask because right now I'm using the "Create CIA" option for someone else, and it's slow as hell. I get 4.0 MB/s down and I know I'm not getting anywhere near that on my 3ds.
I usually don't notice the slow speed because I use "download later" in the Eshop and let it go overnight.

When it's done, I'm going to look at the size of the .cia, and see if I can estimate the download speed.

@Drakia when I use 'Install CIA' I am getting speeds around 1200 KB/s but when I use the option 'Create cia' I am getting 125 KB/s that is a pretty huge difference. is that normal behavior or what is possibly going wrong here?

I've noticed that too, and have absolutely no idea why it's happening. As mentioned in the post you quoted, we just open a file handle, and write to it. It shouldn't be any slower than writing the content directly to install, but for some reason is.

Is there any way that I can get my version 11.0.0-33U on my 3dsxl lower without formating it?
get your version lower - you mean downgrading?
sure it's possible, it can be possible without formatting. why do you want to downgrade, maybe we can work around that issue first - you might not need to downgrade.

although this is not the place to ask this question.

and oh, if you don't have any hacks installed, yeah definitely not the place...
i assumed you were using a9lh or something.

I was going to downgrade it, so I could get the text to item hack for Animal Crossing New Leaf

sorry if this question has been asked a lot, but if I were to create tickets for DLC contents that I do not own, will going to the eShop wipe them out? This happens a lot when I install a DLC .cia and it disappears if I go into the eShop

If DLC cia has disappeared, it will disappear. It depends on if you've ever purchased any (even free) DLC in the past.

@kidasquid has it, if you've previously run into your DLC being removed when visiting the eShop, you'll probably still run into it. Nobody has really tracked down how to stop that from happening.

I see. I had the impression that creating the tickets for dlcs you didn't own, would prevent them from being wiped after entering the eShop

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
