Hacking Noob question Updating WiiU/Vita firmware?

i just got a new vita and a wii U, if i dont care about psp/wii mode hack except for native Vita/wiiu hack is there any reason not to update them to latest firmware now? i mean i dont want to be like i did with 3DS and upgrade pass 4.5 but if there is no progress on the hacking them i may just upgrade to the latest fw

ps does WIIU homebrew allow cheats like inf money on wiiu game or wii only?

Both are not possible yet... so there is no reason to hold back updates that are needed to play the games you want. Just don't always update the firmware trough the auto update feature.
