I tried asking in different threads but noone seems to know whats up.
So I have hardmodded my n3dsxl. Read nand with 2 programs of total 3 dumps. All 3 have same md5.
The only problem seems to be that I can't write to it. I even tried writing faulty dump that I just did. Still gives an i/o error 1117 in both programs. Though USB Image Tool suggests that it's already in use, and that I should close any opened windows with it. But I don't have any(duh).
Any help appreciated.
Missing the lock on the SD card...

Got the boot screen but my adapter has to be plugged up to the computer. Computer doesnt detect anything. Card reader by chance? I ordered one from the guide just tried the one i had here.

Defiantly the adapter. My wifes laptop has a build in reader and it worked with no issues.

My Anker A7612 worked just fine for 2DS.
I use some 5$ reader i picked up at a store for 3ds/xl since all tuts recommend having the reader disconnected from the computer but attached to the DS when you turn the DS on.
Can't really do that with a built-in reader.

Hi!
Can't dump my new3dsXL.
I soldered wires on motherboard using manual. I bought necessary card-reader (transcend rpd-8). When i tried to dump - i didn't see any new storage in storage manager (i see label of cardreader, but there is no any storage in it).
my error number:
00F800FE
00000000 00000000
00000200 00400000

Then i tryed again with different computers and cartreaders. I had a lot of different "blue-screen" errors (when i'm trying to use different cardreaders), but no luck.
There is list of other errors that i have seen (while the soldering has not changed):
00F800FF
DFCFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000200 00400000

00F800FE
DFCFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000080 00800000

00F800EF
FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000003 00000000

00F800EF
FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000200 00000000

I tryed 3 different computers with different OS (win10/win7/XP).
I checked solder and wires two or three times.

Can anybody help me?

Looks like you've soldered the Clk wrong. It's only the small lower left square pad. I'd recommend soldering on the alternate Clk as shown in the picture I just left. It's easier to solder.

Hey guys
I want to find out if i can use this usb micro connector
For what? To create an external connector on your 3DS? Then it should be allright, as long as you realise that you still need a cardreader, so you can't plug the USB cable straight from your computer to this board.

I keep trying to dump my nand at about 12%-24% i get error 24 from win32 disk imager. Anyone else have this issue and how did you fix it?
I had a similar problem (with varying percentages at which the dump process failed). I just double checked all soldering on the PCB, re-do it as clean as possible and all went fine

Ill have to go and try to redo it cleaner and see if this fixes it.
Edit: Just ran a continuity check using a multi meter and all my wires checkout straight into the mirco sd card adapter. Could it be that it's my card reader? I'm not using one of the recommended card readers.

It could very well be. I find it strange that the pc recognizes the device and even tries to read it (and even having a successfull start!) to try and blame the card reader. Some small solder traces might be causing the trouble (I had some problems regarding that matter, specially on old 3ds xl...as to why that model, IDK :P). So as I said, you lose nothing trying to clean the PCB and soldering as carefully as you can.

I think it might be my connector soldering to be frank. my PCB soldering is pretty clean, but the connector soldering is well... mediocre. xD Here's a picture I took of the soldering.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
