Can gateway run the CIA roms like youtube and pokebank now? If so, is there anything special you have to do, or just drag and drop like a normal rom?

i posted some similar questions in the n00b thread, but just to be clear...

if i bought a new 3DS here in japan this week, and let's say it's version 9.2, and i also got a gateway card, is it possible for me to run DS software? what would the basic process be? (i use the japanese dictionary kanji sonomama rakubiki jiten literally every day, and that is the only reason i even bought a DS in the first place 6 years ago!)

Hey guys - I am not sure this is the proper place to post my question. If I put my Supercard DSTwo in the my 3DS it breaks the Gateway hack and I have to re run the Blue Card installer. Is anyone else familiar with this?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is just what happens. I don't believe there is anything you can do about it.

So i dont have any eshop games, but have 4 retail games, Mario 3D land, Theatrythm, Dream team bros and Tales of the abyss. EUR 3DS XL on 9.2
am new to gateway and its proper steps, but so far ive gathered the following

when i have gateway are these the steps in proper order ? Will have a 32GB 48MB/s SanDisk SD and 32GB SanDisk 48MB/s microSD

Backup SD contents (from 4 GB orignal SD)
Launcher on 32 Gb SD
Gateway red in slot (micro SD on ExFat)
goto website to boot into gateway menu (start wifi at this point)
update gateway Red to 3.0.1 (turn wifi off after)
Backup sysnand,
go back to sysnand, power off
keep NAND safe on PC
power on
run website again, Hold L for gateway menu, Format Emumand
power off
put SD card content back on SD
power on
run website, boot into emunand
goto settings confirm GW3DS 9.2,
from the settings update emunand to 9.4
powercycle into SysNand,
Remove SD card from system
format Sysnand (it is safe from updating even though it needs internet to format right ??)
now the sysnand and emunand are seperated so emunand keeps themes, and unpacked .CIA
powercycle,
put SD back into system
run website hack into GW menu
Downgrade to 4.5
run blue card exploit
launch emunand from DS profile
???
profit

This should keep any saves from retail on SD card, have my 3DS on 4.5 SysNand and EmuNand on 9.4 right ?

This may seem like a dumb question, but how do I update emuNAND? I'm running Gateway 3.0 and 9.2.0 and whenever I go into the settings after loading the exploit there's no GW3D near the firmware, and when I go back to the Home Menu, the exploit is gone.

The Gateway Ultra Guide says "Only Classic 3DS is supported at the moment"... and I'm not sure what that means exactly. I recently bought a Retro NES 3DS XL running 7.2.0-17U... can I use Ultra 3.0.1 on my system?

yes
only classic 3DS is supported, that excludes new 3DS.

So i have one question:

I have done all of that:

Backup SD contents (from 4 GB orignal SD)
Launcher on SD
Gateway red in slot
goto website to boot into gateway menu (start wifi at this point)
update gateway Red to 3.0.1 (turn wifi off after)
Backup sysnand,
go back to sysnand, power off
keep NAND safe on PC
power on
run website again, Hold L for gateway menu, Format Emumand
power off
power on
run website, boot into emunand
goto settings confirm GW3DS 9.2,
from the settings update emunand to 9.4

Now everything work fine except i lost My mii plaza with all the puzzle... so how i get them back?
You can see i don't have put the data back to my sd because i was not aware of what i should put back in or not (the only thing i always put back is my save files :P)
I read somewhere that you can inject your nand into emunand, is that something i must do?

This is going to sound dumb but, how do I play .3dZ games or .3ds games? Reason I ask is because I can install and run .CIA games no problem but when I copy .3ds or .3dz games onto my micro SD in the red gateway card and load exploit, it doesnt see it. I am using a micro SD 16GB formatted to exFAT.

Press select when you are in the Home menu. It will open the multi-rom menu.

This might be a silly question to most Gateway users, but since I don't have a Gateway yet myself, I thought I might ask it.
After seeing a few of the install guides, older and newer versions, I was left to wonder how the activation actually works.

Does the user have to perform the "tricks" such as the DS profile activation or the QR code scan every time the system boots up?

Haha :) I know that, but none of my games show up in the multi rom menu. Basically I tested this with a few roms in .3ds and .3dz format however nothing ever shows up. When I installed devmenu that DID showup however. Any ideas? Do I have to create a special folder on the micro SD card or something?

EDIT: On a side note, can a US 3DSXL play EUR games as well as USA version roms? It seems I installed a EUR game .CIA Pokemon Y with no issues, but I just wanted to be sure (I also ran the update it needed to play).

EDIT2: Compressing questions, when I inject a rom with a header to play online can I use any retail games header? For instance can I inject a header from Fire Emblem Retail into a pokemon game to play online?

Try to format the microsd card first and copy all the roms you want to the card in one go.

You can inject any header afaik

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
