Am i right in saying that other mappers will never work ?
On current emulator they will never work. Maybe someone will port some other emulator on NES Mini. It's possible.

Is there a tool of some sort to change the mapper ?
It's not possible to do automatically (with some exceptions). You need to do it manually.

Hi Guys,
First time trying this.
I'm using Mac.
I ran the latest Hakchi version as it says it supports wine.
The program loads up perfectly, add games, cover art .... but then when I get to the part of syncing and connecting my nes by USB, it's stuck on the "waiting for Nes Mini" pop up.
There's an option on the bottom to install drivers if not installed yet. (How do I do this on Mac)?
I tried Zadig (through wine) but nothing shows up on the list to select, even after selecting "list all devices)
(Also there is no chime sound when I plug or unplug the nes from the Mac.)
Thanks in advance, hope someone can help!

I am happy to say that this application works great with Wine!

Hi, How did you get the drivers on your Mac?
When I load the program through wine on my Mac it boots up perfectly but then stuck on waiting for NES mini pop up "add drivers"? When I plug my nes into my Mac it doesn't even chime

@DJJIMMC You did hold the reset button and then turned on power, until you hear the chime ?

Hi Mad-Mega,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I have done the above, held down the reset button/power on but to no success. I tried it holding it in for 2 sec, 5sec, 10 sec, 1 min but no chime or nothing popping up on the Mac!
Does this work on Mac can you confirm, has anyone been successful doing it or is it just windows it will work on? Is it the Mac simply not recognising the nes when plugged into the USB as the Hakchi program loads up perfectly through wine, just not seeing the Nes Mini?
Thanks again

Wat USB cable did you use, the original one ?

Yes, I used the USB cable that came with the nes.
USB cable works fine connected to USB socket on TV for power.
Just to test ( I also plugged USB into my Mac and pressed the power button alone just to see if it lights up and it does, so it does get power from my USB on my Mac also)
It's Just nothing happens if I hold reset button down and power up when connected to the Mac to put it in that syncing mode.
Would the drivers that it uses on windows be the same as it uses on Mac?

Anyone has these problems with FDS, Doki Doki Panic skips the intro, gameplay is great, Metroid FDS has a very long (half minute) between the start and actually the game starting.

I have a question. I did the hack and have my new games in the mini nes. I would like to add more games but I am not sure the steps to do it. Do I have to do the complete process all over again or I just need a step or two?

Could someone please tell me the steps to add more games?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.
