This looks quite interesting. I probably should have a go at the FPSMaker.
Let me know if you do. :) Unfortunately I haven't been putting as much work into FPSM as I wish I had because the portal project has taken priority, so don't expect to be able to make a full game just yet... but if you do get something done, I'd love to see it.

do you need a portal gun.md2
not yet. The portal project is not really far along enough for me to worry about graphical assets; when the time comes (ie when the engine is somewhat stable and closer to completion), I'll start looking for a low-poly 3D artist. (and hopefully I can find someone who's motivated enough !)

tiny update ! just wanted to let people know that I'm slowly getting back to work on portal after a 2~3 week break. This morning I started work on cube/portal interaction, and it works pretty well so far :

Not much else new. I think I mentioned I was hoping to get a nice demo out by christmas, and I still think I might be able to, but no promises for now.

What else are you planning on adding?
(I've never played portal so I don't know much)
Well you really should try it out, it's a great game. :P
But basically once I'm done cleaning and optimizing the engine, I'll be adding buttons (both pressure and "use"), doors, "energy balls" and hopefully mobile platforms. I probably won't be able to do much more but this much should be doable at least.

Boxes to put on the pressure plates too, right?

I know this projects in a (Very) early stage, but I was wondering, when the Portal DS Project is released, would it be possible to re-texture the portal device? Like this;

I think it would be great if players could add custom skins for the gun.

Whoa whoa whoa, I hadn't seen this, just when I thought DScraft was the most amazing piece of homebrew, you make this. It's been said countless times but you are amazing, If the 3DS get homebrew one day (and if you get one too) I can't wait to see what you could do with more resources! :)

Oh definitely; obviously custom skins aren't a priority for me but I've made a habit of storing my games' textures in easy to edit format, so as long as you can read/save PCX files you'll be able to do anything you want with the textures. :)
I also plan on including a level editor with portal and with that you'll probably be able to add your own textures for the levels you create !

Thanks, glad you like it. :)
does this work in Sudokuhax?
I think it does ! I think gruetzkopf from #dsdev might have tested it and if it didn't work I'm sure he'd have let me know. (so basically, I'm not absolutely sure, but it should)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
