It can't. It's the main reason most people do not agree with Ninty.
You making it sound like the rumor is true...
That's because it is. But the question remains... will Ninty DO it?

I really don't care, and I'm not gonna listen to this silly little rumor. I'll play my 3DS all I want, but I won't even use a flashcart on it in the first place.

Power saving mode ruins DS playback (flashcart or not), and I'd rather use my DSi XL with its larger screen size.

The rumor has not been confirmed, but if you have evidence, present it.

Not true. Everything has a work around, it just requires the right knowledge and tools. Any sort of protection or killswitch can be bypassed.

I agree. But it's not easy.

If you bothered to read the second post, you would know that the warning doesn't mean anything.

@everybody else:
Here's a working link to the thread gamefan5 posted
CODEhttp://nintendo3dsblog.com/proof-nintendo-will-brick-your-nintendo-3ds-if-you-do-stuff-they-dont-want-you-to-do
-
I'll try out several flashcarts on the system but after that I'll wipe the system memory out of fear that something may happen.

I already own a DSi and DS Lite. I might as well just run flashcarts on those.

GoNintendo just confirmed that using a flashcart WILL brick your 3DS. Even Nintendo made notice here. Things just got interesting
Even then (as if it was new) it sounds like your flashcart will brick the device not Nintendo.

Putting *will* there is a scare tactic.

I think I seen things like that before.

Would you even think twice about the warning if they said could or would in there?

Your link doesn't seem to be working, at least for me.

It seems like nobody in this thread knows how to read.

Look at the goddamn second post. That warning is just fear-mongering, AFAWK.
Soul Snatcher, you are the Phoenix Wright to my Case.

I agree, but even though they wrote it for fear, I think this is getting pretty interesting.

Does anybody even read anymore? This is the same stupid notice that has been posted numerous times this thread. It's not proof of anything other then fear mongering. If people thought for a single second about this, they would realize that the only things that are possibly going to happen are

a) banning from online stuff
b) voiding your warranty
c) mario looking down at you in shame

As has been previously noted, if Nintendo bricks your console, you have no incentive to get more games, and the negative publicity causes lost sales. And as I have previously noted, as long as you update your card after your 3DS, there is no way they can do anything.

When the PSP 1000 was Bricked by a TRojan Virus or Messed up Firmware , they were able to find a work around . It was called a Pandora Battery.

That would be awesome.

Anyways, I can't believe people are believing this. It is a scare tactic, I personally don't think they would brick the system, because it would eventually be a loss of money for them. They could have done it to the wii(To my knowledge they could always update it without you noticing) and I'm pretty sure they'll just take away online play and that's about it.

Well, since we pretty much agree that it is used for fear and that we don't believe that Ninty will brick the 3DSes, will this thread close? 'Cause I don't see why it should go any longer...

No, the discussion's not over, and moreover, nothing has been confirmed or unconfirmed.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
