The gamepad is weighing on the Wii U as much as the Kinect is weighing on the XBox One. Personally I like the concept of it, but it's an additional expense of aprox. $100-140 that so far hasn't been used in a particularly inspiring way by any developer other than Nintendo. It's a neat accessory, but an accessory nonetheless and considering the fact that the system could sell for $150 and likely at a profit if the gamepad wasn't a part of the bundle it sort of becomes a deal breaker. The average customer sees it like this - "ok, so I can play on this system like on a tablet... except I can't take that tablet around with me... Oh...". It's literally dead weight and I can't help but wonder how well the system would sell if it was that cheap. A lot of people don't want to pay the extra $100 for the Kinect and I feel that a lot of people don't want to pay the extra $100-140 for the gamepad when it's really not necessary 9 out of 10 times.

So many wild emotions, petty insults and capital letters.
And over some sales forecasts too, since when did any of you care about economics?
Props to the OP, the journalistic baiting hooked a bag of fish.

The only troll here is you because you make no effort to even back up any claim you make or shitpost you throw out there.
If you're SERIOUSLY going to judge an FPS based on its camera angle and claim EVERYTHING ELSE is garbage, then it's time to GTFO.
Bioshock is one of this Decades most Fabtastic FPS's and you know what it doesn't do a lot of? Shooting. Yknow what it does do a lot of? Fantastic story telling with unparalleled gameplay and amazing visuals.
Seriously, stop Being stupid.
No one can take you seriously anymore.

What claim? In the post you replied to, I asked a question. I also said the only thing all FPS games have in common is their camera angle. Uh, and why in fuck would I base my opinion of any game on its camera angle? :wtf: Either you didn't understand me, which I think is likely, or you misread something. I said "The only thing FPS games have in common are their camera angle." It's like comparing it to platformers: platformers are all the same. It's the story and other such stuff that make it unique.

And seriously, I will certainly ignore you if you can't even answer a question I pose and just flame me for writing something. But not indefinitely; just your posts in this thread in which you reply to me.

Out of vita, ps4, and xbone the wii u has the best games out of all.

And I was taking you seriously til i read this.

lol

(And yes, I have a Wii U with 80% of its library)

EDIT : Read this further down the thread.
We'll except for Nintendo consoles pretty much yeah.

And I have seen reports that GameCube was more profitable than ps2 (not including gba), only explanation for that is Nintendo knows how to make money in this business better than their competition.

You go enjoy your excel sheet while I'll go enjoy my 100+ critically acclaimed games.

Blah blah Wii U is bad, blah blah doomed blah
blah blah no games blah

blah blah flame discussion

There, I just summarized the entire discussion here.
Honestly can we start laying these things to rest? I love playing Pokemon on my 3DS, playing Monster Hunter on my Wii U and playing Valkyria Chronicles on my PS3.
There's a bunch of Xbox games I like, but personal experiences with Xbox makes me stay away from their consoles.
Yes, I'll probably be the first to defend Nintendo. I grew up mostly with my N64 and PSX, but even I can't disagree that Nintendo has been messing up... but why the hell is everyone making it a big deal and why is everyone suddenly an expert in running their company?
The problem is that with everyone collectively shitting on their products, they can't actually make good new things because without people buying their products, they don't make money and they can't make new games. They don't spawn out of thin air, yknow. Same with bad 3rd party support, it's not like anyone is actually buying their system right now. No dev is going to WANT to develop for them now.

Now, the final thing I'll say before moving on with my life, maybe playing some F-Zero X:
STOP CARING. GO PLAY GAMES. THAT'S WHAT CONSOLES ARE FOR.

Exactly.

I like my wii u, I like the games, sorry if that bothers some.

Nintendo will be fine and support the wii u even if it's not doing well and I will continue to get more games I like.

Not sure why so many want to turn it in to a flame war.

I don't have a vita or a PS4 but I can't think of any games they have that I would like to play more than what I have on my Wii U. What do I have on my Wii U? More games than I have time to play. I will likely get a PS4 and a Vita eventually but I can't think of any games compelling me to get them now.....so I wait. That's all opinion and fanboy flame war fodder though (the topic in general, not your post....my claim is just as much so). But I don't know how you can say PS4 and Vita have 100+ critically acclaimed games......do they even have 100 games total? I have PS1, PS2, PS3, 360, and PSP so .....

Gamer fondness and loyalties aside, if Nintendo is making more cash then their competition (historically, maybe not at this particular moment) they must be doing something right.

My 100 games comment was for this quote

My point was that we don't play sales, (I don't think anyone here at least), we care about games, and it was undoubtedly PS2's victory in that generation. Not disregarding the Gems that the Gamecube in any way, but the PS2 had a much bigger number of gems imo.

Yeah sure, I'm not debating that. I had a ps2 and never had a gamecube until I got the wii.

The financial numbers I put in this thread was only to point out that inspire of a resounding defeat in the "console war" Nintendo did just fine regardless so how big of a "disaster" is a loss in the console war when they made more profit overall?

I don't think I have ever made the argument gamecube was a superior console to ps2 even with the ridiculous disc read error problems. Looking back I wish I had both consoles though because I feel I missed out on plenty of gems.

I've seen a lot of Twitter rambling about Nintendo changes. From licensing characters to going to an account system, finally. I think despiration and basic wallet voting has Nintendo's attention. My main point is I'd like to see Nintendo treat third party vendors better and have a system on par with other offerings. I hate Microsoft for a variety of reasons and also EA...and am not a huge Sony fan. Having one system for a change would be great.

Fees to maintain network. I get that Foxi4 and your logic flows like water. If companies bleed money and dev billions of $ flea system they can't have a decent network? Nintendo is truly behind in every way. I like the gamepad. My family can play on it without turning off shows for everyone else and it is useful. After using gamepad for maps/items it is hard to revert back to a normal controller. The price is obnoxious and the Kinect being forced on people is the same situation, basically.

Nintendo will need to catch up and really, a lot is about adapting and committing to the change. Most are not terribly complicated. The network and online gaming is not really applicable for most games. Mario Kart, Mario games, Smash Brothers? Others could have a use. Hopefully Nintendo modernizes what they can now and look to network dev to be key for the next system. Foxi4 is great. Lol.

From what I've seen, the argument went from "The Wii U isn't flopping!" to "W-well Nintendo has been profitable at least!" to "W-well I like my games!"

Oh boy.

If your talking about the story since launch maybe, but that's not the discussion in this thread.

My point from my first post in this thread was that current financial performance is not the death woes of the company, that the wii u will continue to be supported by Nintendo and that current owners will get the games they bought the console for and if the company goes on and gives its fans that they want then the results of "the console war" are not important in any substantial way to wii u owners.

Anyone hoping Nintendo Co. Ltd. chief executive Satoru Iwata would unveil some sort of magic bullet to cure the struggling Japanese game giant’s Wii U woes at an investors meeting in Tokyo Thursday morning were sorely disappointed.

The iconic CEO talked about rededicating the company’s efforts to create definitive experiences for the system’s often misunderstood GamePad, and trying to make better use of its NFC (near field communications) capabilities.

He said Nintendo would begin bringing Nintendo DS games to Wii U through Virtual Console, and that longterm plans include creating a single ID to tie software to an account users can access on all their Nintendo devices.

[source]

Wii U plans:

[1]- create definitive experiences for the system’s often misunderstood GamePad,
[2]- make better use of its NFC (near field communications) capabilities.
[3]- bringing Nintendo DS games to Wii U through Virtual Console
[4]- develop new “quality of life” applications to monitor users’ health and wellbeing.

[1]- create definitive experiences for the system’s often misunderstood GamePad,
- I'll believe it, when I see it. It will never amount to the Wii Motion controller's breakthrough.
- The Gamepad is a failure IMO and there will be no definitive experience for the second screen. If Nintendo releases another console, it should abandon the GamePad.

[2]- make better use of its NFC (near field communications) capabilities.
- Won't move more consoles. Good for Skylanders, I guess.

[3]- bringing Nintendo DS games to Wii U through Virtual Console
- Won't move more consoles.

[4]- develop new “quality of life” applications to monitor users’ health and wellbeing.
- This sounds like a failure brewing. I guess Nintendo's exact plans are important to know before judging.
- Ideally this would be independent of the Wii U if it was pursued.

Yeah that last thing is entirely independent from their consoles in my understanding. Although I really don't understand what the heck it's supposed to be.
